This is the first time I've watched him properly, but yeah, he looks talented/skittish and needs one to go in soon before his confidence evaporates.

It's like me on the pool table between three and four pints. I hope this flow state lasts longer for him though...

Is...is Bobby Thomas always this good? This is a first half performance for the ages.

It’s so weird that, outside of it being a tremendous day out for a few thousand City fans, we have no idea what this game means. Presumably not important points in the title race. Possibly important points in the relegation dogfight. Possibly it will be expunged. Are we all wasting our time?

I enjoyed his tussle with ‘retrospectively’ earlier. He is a child of this neighbourhood, btw, and everyone who knows him says that he is the best of chaps.

100% this. Also, buy Sathnam’s books, they’re excellent.

I once recorded an episode of a podcast in a studio separated from Ms Wilde only by a glass wall. She was doing commercial voiceovers, I was doing a show about Charlton Athletic. I thought perhaps something might happen. A stolen glance. A thought of what might be. But nah, nothing. Her loss.

I’m perma-suspicious of the online world now, but always keen to find new places for Track Radio to make new friends.

Can't we just have one thing without Nazis? They're popping up everywhere these days.

What's the view on Substack here? As a place to promote, oh I don't know, a plucky sports and music radio station, for example? Is it any good? Are people there? Are they all mad like at The Other Place?

I'm afraid so. The dog's been going crackers every half hour with every door knock. I'm so glad it's over.

39% turnout largely because everyone was sick of their doorbell going every half hour with another canvasser.

Everton owner The Friedkin Group open to full sale of club
The Athletic reported in September that Everton's American owner was looking for fresh investment into the club.

Quite right. There is no rock bottom when it comes to these people. That said, I always thought Infantino was a wrong-un. Even when he was just there to do cup draws, he had the air of that one bloke on a stag night who takes it too far.

I've met Ramon Vega a few times. He moved into finance after football and he's a very smart cookie indeed. He also has the hardest handshake in the world. He lifts his hand above his head and brings it down on yours like a fucking Stuka. He'll do for me.

Obviously, we're very excited to have Gary Lineker on @wearetrackradio.bsky.social today, but we've also got Christian Vieri and he's delivering the goods. (He's also much more cheerful than he looks here) ((And I wouldn't want to mark him at a set piece)).

We didn't discuss on stage, but we did beforehand and I am pleased to report that your man still feels robbed by the Cup Final of '86 and insists (with no small amount of justification) that Everton were the better team.

I’ve sent in a list of business-like podcast-centric questions, but I’m actually going to go rogue and keep it “85/86: What Might Have Been” focused.

Deduct eight points from Everton.

Aw, thanks Tatts, that's really nice of you to say. I do agree though. I think the world would be in a better place if I was sat in a corner writing 800 words on Liverpool's back four. This is all far too grown up.

If you're at #leadersweek tomorrow, you can find me interviewing Gary Lineker about podcasts on the Business & Leadership stage. I've even promised to stop wanging on about @wearetrackradio.bsky.social for a limited time and I nearly always keep my promises...

I concur about AJ. The bit about everyone in the White House bunker slowly air-frying anyway was quite the bit. I read it, I'm glad I read it, I'm glad I never have to read it again.

October Hols! I used to promise myself October Hols when I was freelance and I never did it. Had similar plans for February Hols. All such schemes came to naught. I am intensely jealous.

Yeah, the slow burn satisfaction of bringing them through the U18s for two seasons, the U23s for three months and then getting completely overexcited and chucking them in off the bench in the League Cup.

Iain Macintosh @iainmacintosh.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Yeah, you really need two hours minimum before you press continue for the first time. Probably six hours for a proper pre-season. But then I play a little slower than most. My real life year of FM17 gave me 12 seasons. I really should look at my life choices.

I just loved spending five mins every now and then roaming through the other leagues, checking out up and coming talent, looking out for old favourites. I play it more like a RPG than a football sim.

I never finished a season on FM24, it just felt very clicky. I think FM22 was the last one I really fell for.

Iain Macintosh @iainmacintosh.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Encouraging noises from SI about FM27, but the key is going to be the immersion level. The FM26 match engine/tactical overhaul was positive, but the reason I didn't play it very much was that it didn't feel like my own little world. I played FM17 all year instead, which did.

The woman who gave me the most obvious look was age appropriate to have seen that in the cinema. As am I, it should be noted.

Took the dog for a walk. Vaguely aware people were staring at me. Wondered if it was curry stained grey joggers or old beer promotional t shirt. Wondered why people were so judgemental about fashion. Came home. Just seen there’s a massive globule of bright white moisturiser on my face.

Rueben Durmock, Australian media magnate, and his feud with Mobbert Raxwell. Like reading a novel by the team who brought you Pro Evo Soccer.

Fourth Estate is very funny, possibly not on purpose. It’s Kane and Abel with Murdoch/Maxwell’s Wikipedia pages augmented with fake names, heavy handed exposition and a mysterious plunge off a yacht…

I really enjoyed Kane & Abel. And yes, I know, exposition is supposed to be more subtle than that. And yes, dialogue too. I hear you. I’m just saying that the man could make you turn a page.

Southend, having taken the lead and made another impressive start, have just scored an own goal for the ages. Think Lee Dixon, but on the deck. I’d be more upset but we’ve restored the lead while I was typing.

I used to work in the Dyson factory in Malmesbury. Local radio piped into the assembly lines. That song was played every hour. That and Scrubs by TLC. I grew to loathe the pair of them. The more you hear them and listen the lyrics, the more offensive they get. I’ll never be okay about them.
