If Birthright Citizenship Is Conditional, No One Is Safe - Truthdig
Revising the 14th Amendment would threaten the legal foundation that allows adopted children to become U.S. citizens.

There are few things I hate quite like the data center boom. It’s an environmental crisis, invitation for corruption, and economic bomb in the making all at once. It’s a lot like 19th century railroad booms and bubbles. I wrote about that for @damemagazine.bsky.social here.

The AI Data Center Boom Looks a Lot Like the Railroad Bubble
Across the U.S., massive data centers are powering generative AI. History suggests the boom may resemble the railroad bubble, with huge costs for the public.

I published this for @wired.com today and I'm really happy with it. You might think that I have a categorical dislike for COBOL, but actually I don't. I think instead that it's really important to think carefully about the computing systems you build, because changing them can be *really* painful.

COBOL Is the Asbestos of Programming Languages
The most widely adopted computer language in history, COBOL is now causing a host of problems. It's also dangerously difficult to remove.

My latest for Liberal Currents. A substantial portion of conservatives want to be rich people in a poor country because it affords them a greater sense of hierarchy and power. We misunderstand that at our peril, but making it clear and not affording them the benefit of the doubt could save us.

I am a mess. Therefore, my creative process is also a mess 😇
In this meme Miyazaki is pictured in four frames. In the top left, he looks exhausted with his eyes closed and his arms crossed on his forehead. In the top right he has both hands covering his face. In the bottom left he stands in a garden, almost hidden by leaves. In the bottom right he is sitting at a desk staring into nothingness. At the top the picture says “this is actually my creative process.”

With WaPo locked into a death spiral, CBS effectively an arm of state news, and public media facing massive budget cuts, it's more important than ever to follow and support independent media.

An absolutely chilling read from my good friend @hyunniejoo.bsky.social on the threat posed to adoptees by the assault on birthright citizenship, and why it’s a dagger pointed at so many people. Read it, boost this message, and follow her.

Once citizenship becomes conditional for one group, it becomes conditional for everyone whose status depends on legal interpretation rather than bloodline. Korean adoptees know this all too well. #kaad #koreanadoptee #adoption www.truthdig.com/articles/if-...

I'm doing a thread of everything I've published this year, but amassing everything I'm struck by how fast the Trump admin moved to wreck the country. I figured that they would move a bit more slowly breaking everything, but no, 2025 was the year of the crowbar and the wrecking ball. (Plz boost!) 🧵

Learning to write simply for yourself is so hard. I struggle to appreciate and to see the value of essays and poems I’ve written that have been rejected for publication. I so dislike my inner fragility. It’s like… I need to find the will to keep working on them, to stop letting go so easily 🍃

I was laid off from Teen Vogue this week, alongside multiple other phenomenal team members. At our Summit, I was asked how it felt to be 1 of 2 Black women left and what that meant for representation. Now, there are no Black women at Teen Vogue and that is incredibly painful to think about.
