It’s easy to think the literacy crisis is a recent development until you remember churches were playing Hozier’s Take Me To Church in 2012 and constantly requesting him to sing events and he kept having to be like “Did anyone listen to a word I said?” and they’d say “Yeah you wanna go to church :)”
