As for Albertan criticism of Quebec, the issue isn’t really that Quebec has programs like affordable daycare and lower tuition, it's that Alberta, with GDP per capita about 40% over the national average, and maybe even better able afford such services, chooses NOT to offer them to Albertans.

Also misunderstood by AB separatist nitwits, is that the inclusion of oil-rich Alberta into the calculation raised the national standard significantly. Under the old formula, Ontario was the top-performing province. Soaring oil prices for example is beyond the control of Ontario's government.

Next, eligibility for equalization is based on a province falling below a national income standard; it is NOT based on how much a province spends, runs a deficit or surpluses. ie, a small province like PEI could run budgetary surpluses, yet (small tax base) be unable to meet the national standard.

Netflix is laying off 1,000 workers — its largest layoff ever. In 2025, Netflix had a net income of $11 billion (up 26%). Its CEO was paid $53M (255x more than the median employee). And it just raised prices for the second time in just over a year. Corporate greed in a nutshell.

2/ As many Canadians know - or should know - provinces do not necessarily spend the federal dollars they receive on health care of the universal kind. See benighted Alberta, where the UCP have wasted huge amounts on Tylenot, selling labs and then buying them back, etc. /3

Canada's doctors (the Canadian Medical Association) is pestering the federal government to spend more on health care. Constitution 101: *provinces* are responsible for health care delivery. Health Act transfers (about $40B/year) are meant to roughly equalize Canadians' access to care. /2

This is so true.
They’re conservative elites who play themselves off as grassroots victims of that toxic dynamic between oil country and The Rest; they’re wealthy lawyers, local business bosses, political power brokers, academic enablers, and media gatekeepers. They operate by exploiting the alienated, the frustrated, the angry, and the insane in order to inch themselves one rung further up a sinking chain.
And this incestuous little crew, regardless of how the vote goes, they are going to make out like bandits. Let me tell you, none of these separatists leaders or their enablers care one whit what happens to house prices or the Albertan economy or the enmity or hatred that will be fomented as a result of the chaos they are courting.
These local elites have given no consideration to the risks or impacts of foreign interference. They have no serious plan for what happens if a referendum vote succeeds — or fails. They don’t give a shit. They’ll get theirs — the connections they’re building, the profile they’ll build, the email lists they’re creating, the money they’ll raise through crowdfunding. All of it will roll right next into the next cause, and the one after that. Yeehaw.
These people are children poisoned by cynicism and self-regard running an ugly little grift and ordinary Albertans will foot the bill in the long run.
And they can do this because our elected leaders have let them do it. They’ve allowed themselves to become beholden to this crew. They pander to them, in fact.

Just complete nonsense. The federal NDP and Bloc Quebecois are not "fringe parties" -- they win dozens of seats every election. The Alberta separatists have never won a single one federally, and only one at the provincial level. And yet, the premier is allowing them to dictate her entire agenda.
