Extreme #heat kills more people than other extreme weather events. The word here isn’t “gentler”; it’s “deadlier.” Inexcusable headline (surprise, surprise) from the @nytimes.com. #climatechange

Everything about this is extraordinarily disturbing (including the Mar-a-Lago face). Kids’ socioemotional development comes from interacting with *humans*. And Native American kids should not be put through this. Instead of #AI, #fascism, and #climate change, how about we start taking care of kids?!

It’s unacceptable that we are in this situation, here in Michigan and everywhere else. We need to go off fossil fuels right away and transition to energy sources that don’t kill us and destroy our world. #michigan #climatechange #floods #extremeweather

The weather causing this heartbreaking devastation, and the unreal number of tornadoes here this year, is intensified by climate change caused by the fossil fuel industry and its allies. We need to transition to renewable energy right away and take back control of our future.

Climate psychologist in Michigan here 👋, fully supporting your message. The whole state feels like it’s under siege. A tornado landed in Ann Arbor, a 5-min drive (in an EV!!) from my house. Unreal numbers of tornadoes this year, and so early. And the devastating flooding up north is heartbreaking.

What do you attribute the pushback to, and their reluctance (for the most part) to advocate for change when they are so deeply affected? Is it the inability to see beyond business as usual even when the industry will continue to be decimated?

Very important, indeed. Another aspect of heat-related mortality is the indirect deaths. E.g., increased heat leads to more suicide and homicide (and other violent crime), deaths that aren’t officially counted as heat-related.
