Ennis is internationally recognised as the foremost expert on Australian photographic history. She was appointed Curator of Photography at the National Gallery of Australia in 1985, and has previously published monographs on Margaret Michaelis and Wolfgang Sievers. Congratulations, Helen!

A cultural historian of the ancient Mediterranean, she specialised in sexuality & gender, particularly in the poetry of Sappho, Catullus, & Ovid, as well as magical traditions in Greece, Rome, & the Near East. She also researched Classical Reception Studies, with a regular focus on Australia.
