Note: I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing. The economics are pushing old & polluting cars off the road which survived only because fuel was cheap so, even with higher maintenance costs, they were overall "good value". This obviously ignores externalised costs to society. The war in […]

Not sure it'll be worth buying and fixing cheap cars if fuel prices stay like this. I save money doing work myself but the unit cost of EV motoring is just so much lower, and far less maintenance is needed overall. I'll have to move on to cheap EVs...no such thing right now!

If I lease an EV through Octopus at say £300 (including insurance and maintenance) but save at least £140 per month in fuel that makes the net cost to me ~£120 The purchase price of my car was £3500 and assuming it needs the same in keeping it going for 5 years (optimistic, needs a cambelt & […]

It'll be interesting to see the SMMT registration figures for this year and whether there's been another swing towards hybrids/EV. I expect the used EV market is running rather hot right now with oil prices where they are & more affordable cars being sold on as people trade up.

The price of diesel is now effectively £2/litre so it costs about £140 to fill my tank which at 46mpg gives me a range of 700 miles: 20p/mile Assuming an average electricity cost of 26p/kWh and a Polestar 2 with efficiency of 287 Wh/mi, that's about 7 […] [Original post on social.crablab.uk]

I'm not about to reinstall the duel-rate meter set up I specifically got rid of (I've got the water tank on a smart relay) which is no cheaper than Octopus Tracker. I guess EPC hasn't caught up with this concept. So I guess I can add some insulation to a hot water tank (which I don't use) to […]

I don't intent to rent my flat, but the recommendations are a bit silly. The most applicable one (roof insulation) is not within a leaseholder's gift and economically infeasible. Even when the roof is resurfaced, the structure will not be rebuilt and doing so (to add insulation) is maybe 100x […]

We are standing up for renters by setting new energy efficiency standards across both the PRS and SRS[footnote 66] to ensure that tenants benefit from cheaper bills and more comfortable homes. As part of the private rented sector enhancements, landlords will need to upgrade their properties to meet EPC Band C across 2 metrics by October 2030, unless their property has a valid exemption. We anticipate that this will lift hundreds of thousands of households out of fuel poverty by 2030.EPC scorecard showing:
