I don't think this car looks as much fun as it is. youtu.be/w_lgmWORhzM

This cold is unhelpful. What is the point of colds? Just annoying.

A lovely retro photo of me taken on a 110 at Rustival. Snapped by Simone of Hooked on Classics.

We're already seeing a change of tone with the current government, who do have the power to change things. It's very welcome.

I don't tie myself to any party but found myself agreeing more with them in my hope for politics more from the left. The problem with the left is they tend to fall into arguing amongst themselves so often.

Can't help feeling that the Green Party has managed to massively shoot itself in the foot just as things were looking promising. So much time wasted on a policy that achieves nothing other than fuelling further division. Give us policies that actually affect us.

Imagine it sucking away at all of that lovely hot air at the back of the engine bay. Yum.

A pair of abused dailies. In nice colours. Though the Berlingo is retired again for now.

Caliper rebuilding today, trying to find enough decent used bits to make two calipers. Then I realised I'd left the mew flexipipes at home...

Yes but if you're low-income and working, you're even worse off. You soon discover that it's better to be not working and on universal credit because then you get so much more help. I find it hard to feel sorry for people bringing in six-figure sums.

Similarly, people complaining about the cost of the welfare state often don't seem to consider child benefit as a benefit. It clearly is!

Amen! Whenever I mentioned it I just get told it's never an issue as if there's something wrong with me.

You can work extremely bloody hard and earn bugger all. Earnings are rarely actually attached to how hard you work. But getting out of low-paid work is not easy. Are nurses not working hard? Teachers? How lazy of them.

Wow. Kemi Badenoch in openly Tory shocker. Those earning over £100k per year work harder than those who don't apparently. My arse.

Once you've driven electric, automatics just don't feel as good! Kia PV5 as a suggestion? All the space in the world thought the range isn't superb.

Gawd knows. Brexit has given precious little but the decision split the country cleanly in half at the time.

Is it possible we've scared the frothing angry types away already? We featured Trans Car UK in the Rustival video and the anticipated hate comments largely have not been seen. One or two niggly ones have been quietly deleted but almost every comment has been joyously positive. This is pleasing.

The move combined with Rustival has pretty much removed filming and tinkering time. It's been a tough couple of months.

Which leaves the 2CV, which has knocked out the crankshaft. I suspect it would still do the journey but when hot, the oil pressure at idle is low enough to trigger the pressure light. Not recommended.

The Charade and 106 are in theory both options, but neither has working brakes. A weekend project maybe? Which one?

The Panda works but has a coolant leak and cripples me after about 20 minutes. It's out.

Next we have the Berlingo. Would be economical if it didn't have a diesel leak that gets worse with harder engine work. Parked up until I can fix it.

I have a long drive next week. Car choices are not looking good. Xantia will be gone. Aussie barge the obvious choice but with these fuel prices? No. I don't fancy it.

The exhaustion from Rustival wore off at 4:30am yesterday. Now I'm just back to the default of fairly tired. Did a bit too much yesterday which didn't help but when the local scrapyard says they have something interesting in, they're rarely wrong.

Very sad about this. We enjoyed watching very much. The bad comments do sting though, even though we now have a zero tolerance approach. Horrible comment? Deleted. Keep doing it? Hidden from channel or on Facebook, blocked.

I will certainly miss Dot, even though she and her dog-mates had a habit of chasing whatever I was driving!

Ah bus travel. A 2025 Volvo which is fairly pleasant, but the destination computer hasn't been set up and shouts INPUT 1 every time the doors shut.

When you consider that all forms of abuse sadly seem to be on the rise, it seems especially unnewsworthy. People are being nastier generally and we need to turn that around. Rustival felt amazing because a huge range of people came together and had a lovely, friendly time.

The rise of anti-Semitism at universities is a concern - blame the state not the individuals. But, some perspective. The increase is from 83 to 95. Across the entirely of the UK, that is still not very much. Doesn't stop those 95 cases being wrong but is it really news?

Actually Dunkirk tends to be cheaper and is more practical in this case. Slightly longer crossing but more time to relax.

Ian @hubnut.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
There is a time aspect as well. It is more relaxing to sleep on the ferry and then drive a couple of hours to the show. But even with fuel prices the way they are, probably still cheaper to drive from Calais or Dunkirk.

I quite like the Harwich to Hook of Holland. A much larger drive this side than the other. Unfortunately it isn't cheap.

I think I'm aiming for Japan Classic Sunday as my Dutch show of 2027. If by some miracle I'm able to do both I'd love to do EMWalhalla as well. It's astonishing!

Read a post by the chap running the arts and crafts stand in Friendship Corner and how he'd visited several shows before he had the confidence to suggest doing it. People of all ages loved it. It's exactly what makes this show special.

By heck Rustival is something special. The cars are amazing but more and more it's about the people. It's a safe space for so many, and especially those with crippling social anxiety. They know they'll be welcome here. Some of them do amazing things now they're comfortable. It's just incredible.
