A pathetic detail is that the camera had only been installed that day, and someone else had already vandalised it an hour earlier. He didn't even destroy a camera.

Stuck onto slips of card, Christmas present tags. Scattered on the Christmas dinner tablecloth. (Of course one has a tablecloth for Christmas, are you a barbarian?) Hung on threads on the Christmas tree. There may be a theme here.

I would buy this as a simile for Brexit in about 2019, as the UK noisily failed to deal with what was ultimately a problem only for the UK. It seems wildly inadequate to describe the USA's ongoing spasm.

Cream cheese has cream in it. Quince cheese has quinces in it. Blue cheese has blue in it. The pattern extends, eg to cottage cheese.

Outlook lets you do this and it appears in a tiny way at a corner of the Outlook window without any other notification, which is fine except when your colleague intends the thumbs-up to bear an actual meaning you should respond to.

This is a monumentally bad idea, environmentally, economically, and politically. If our fuel becomes more expensive it makes the country poorer. That's nothing like a tax, which reallocates some wealth to make the country as a whole better off. Calling it a "Trump tax" has addled your thinking.

The BBC website's local news was good about twenty years ago, till they downgraded it at the request of the long-defunct local papers of the time. Just putting a section for local and regional stories back on the front page would make the difference.

Removing the standing charge in favour of higher per unit costs would be a subsidy to those who can afford solar+battery+heat pump and use little net electricity despite relying heavily on the grid being available, and a penalty on those in fuel poverty who count the pence for every kWh they use.

To follow this tangent: Truss didn't take part in the Oxford Union debating club at all, to my recollection. At the time sexism was only one among many obnoxious aspects of the club's culture.

This is news to me. Christmas was fixed in the Roman calendar to sit on top of Natalis Solis Invicti, before it was a feast of the Church generally. It has never moved relative to the Roman calendar. There's no sense in which it is ever "really" on some other day.

If there are also bike number plates then ANPR could automate a logbook showing you've cycled enough miles each year to keep your licence current.

They would do it the other way round, of course. Mandatory experience as a cyclist and a proficiency test to pass before graduating to start on your motor licence. I expect current drivers would get 24 months grace or so, and then have to pass the cycling CBT and test or surrender their licence.

Good point well made! They could save some of the costs by going back to letting GPs prescribe methylphenidate to adults without needing a consultant in the loop providing shared care. The drug itself is cheap.
