My daughter has always been a big reader because it was something we did together from the time she was born. Now, at 14 years old, she's big into manga, so we sometimes do a 'book exchange'. I have to read a manga of her choice and she has to read a book of my choice. We both learn from it.

I hear ya--I have MS and I've developed a habit of trying to do one thing--no matter how small--everytime I get up, no matter how shitty I feel, so at least I feel like there's SOME progress to my day outside of sleeping/pain. Otherwise it's easy to get demoralized.

I use a single Word document all the way from outlining to final draft -- making backup copies as I progress. I use headers for parts, chapters, sections, and "floating reference tables", then gradually remove the sections as they are no longer needed.

Glad you found the post useful. I use Excel for tracking timelines (that will be part two!) -- my future Earth doesn't follow a modern calendar so I had to be creative to get sorting by dates etc to work.

It sucked giving a talk to my preteen daughter to prep her for this kind of nonsense. It's already starting to happen within her age group. I hate having to say "this is eventually going to happen to you, multiple times, and here's how to deal with it." The inevitability is despairing.
