I was hoping that Gus Johnson had finally grown out of referring to FOX sideline reporter Jenny Taft as "the All-American Girl." It took nine minutes into the Gophers-Michigan broadcast for my hope to be crushed. She's 39, Gus.

Oregon safety Koi Perich isn't getting the love he received when he played for the hometown Gophers. Post mortems on the Lynx and Twins argue they didn't back up their words with actions. A thought about P.J. Fleck's weekend bloodletting and a Nick Punto sighting are in this week's Sports Take.

I think they skew toward becoming fans because of the stars. It's a fair entry point.

Keep in mind that a good number of people who say they're fans of the W couldn't name 10 players. There's room in the tent for them -- I don't wanna be mistaken for a litmus tester -- but I feel fine not taking their opinions too seriously. I tend to disrespect anyone who cites disrespect! 😎

1. Many enthusiasts are overly enthusiastic. In context, though, the Lynx entered the playoffs as -105 favorites. So the overenthusiasm was widespread. 2. Other teams improved during the season and the best ones figured out how to game plan the Lynx. 3. The moment was too big for Miles.

Reeve did a very good rebuilding job after the free-agent mayhem of the new labor agreement, considering the middle-of-the-pack expectations for the Lynx The starting point to prepare for 2027 is much better, and it'll be intriguing to see what she does. One more thing: Dump Dorka!

I give referees a log of slack, as a rule. But The relationship between the Liberty and the officials in the first half looked a lot like the relationship between Tr*mp and Todd Blanche.

This is a great discussion because there’s no one size fits all answer. I’m sure some students are able to take our media writing class (I’m an adjunct) because they have flexibility. I get STEM students, history/geography/theater students, in addition to our majors. It’s a better classroom, IMO.

My son’s first 3 semesters of college Chinese were essentially review from his 4 years in high school. He also AP’d out of a couple classes. It allowed him to do other things — academic and organization — that benefited him. His double major and a certificate both helped professionally. 1/2

Part of that story was to see how things had changed in casino towns. I stopped at a gambling treatment center in Granite Falls. Talked to the director and a patient came into the office. It was the blackjack dealer from my first trip. He went to the wrong side of the table. Very jarring.

I can't recall a time when sports has done so much to bring out the worst among us. Violence against women mocked, delusional parents, grifters using sports to beg for media attention. I shared my anger and annoyance in this week's Sports Take before getting to the stuff I'm happier to share.

I have now witnessed the last 2 Twins players to wear No. 21 *and* hit home runs in their first MLB at-bat Emmanuel Rodriguez today and Andre David vs. Detroit in 1984 Three things: 1. That was David's only career homer. 2. David's came off Jack Morris 3. I'm older than you may think

Fun to follow the season. You could see the Twins getting worn down by sloppy play and some decisions by Shelton (still a major upgrade over Rocco). I remind myself the 'what-if' scenarios were likely only good enough for a quick playoff exit. Pressure's on for Pohlad to back up big words with moves
