Same. Bought in 2020 and my Prop 13 assessment is currently over FMV. My neighbor who bought in the 90s is assessed at like 15% of mine. We have the exact same house built by same builder 100 years ago.

In Alameda County, medium income for a single person is $118K. An affordable unit for them is $2,970. 80% AMI single person is $95K. Affordable rent would be $2,375. You can walk out your door & get a decent studio on the market in Oakland TODAY for that.

A lot of people do not want to accept that the rental market in California outside San Francisco itself has shifted such that moderate income / middle income households ARE being adequately served by the rental market. Can they afford to BUY a home? Maybe not. But rent? Yes.

Moreover, this Prop 13 constrained counties subsidizing existing occupied properties who are renting AT market for these units. This is pure churn at taxpayer expense. There is no reasonable justification for this.

In most major markets in California, median market rents are already at or below 80% AMI. The market is providing affordability for 70%-80% AMI households already. There's no need to provide a tax exemption to get there. This is purely yield enhancement for little to no public benefit.

This aligns with my sense that pollsters still haven't figured out how to poll the chud vote. My gut is this is overstating Dem strength again. Having come from the land of chuds, chuds are extremely unable to admit they are wrong & would rather just avoid talking to you about it.

Homemade PSL season has begun. *1/2 cup each of pumpkin puree, dark brown sugar & water. Simmer to dissolve. Strain out lumps through a mesh sieve. Dissolve over low heat 1 cup sweetened condensed milk with syrup. Add 1/2 TBS vanilla extract & 1 TBS pumpkin pie spice extract. Keeps in fridge.

Says to me that gas is still too cheap. Will be curious if current gas prices start showing up in U.S. new car sales stats as any shift to more fuel efficient models. Primary appeal to us when we bought our Fit in 2010, besides its ability to haul everything, was its gas mileage.

I live in the Bay Area. Oakland to be precise. The city most negatively impacted by San Francisco's complete refusal to build housing while at same time enthusiastically adding tons of jobs while not building any housing for them. So spare me the whining. It's tiresome and hypocritical.
