Meritocracy is similar to the alignment issue "Alignment to whom" similar to "meritorious according to whom"

There are immense accessibility benefits. The misuse and abuse of technology is a huge problem, but that shouldn't stop us from building technology for accessibility. There's no easy answers to abuse v moderation, but companies like Meta should act more responsibly.

I literally genuinely have no idea what the fuck are you talking about. I don't read others' explanatioms because I didn't encounter the phenomena you're referring to, and frankly, it's none of my fucking concern either. I repeat, I didn't come here for an ideological bubble. Bluesky is doing fine

Not sure how much of that is joke but I genuinely think social media can stay healthy only if even politicians deserve some respect. It's hard because they can ruin people's lives and I do support accountability but social media is tull of toxicity already that I really fucking want to be gone.

Still I insist that mod tools are at least decent to handle some of these. On AI front there are multiple moderation lists; I'm openly pro-AI and have never been dogpiled. Then again, there's always room for improvement. I'd enjoy post reply word blocklists too.

You're forced to be exposed to them because site admins don't allow dogpiling? I'm not a fan of morally wretched people but I didn't come here for a fucking ideological bubble either.

Users are already dealing with that part. The amount of women's support, trans support, etc I encounter on Discover on a daily basis have already pushed any bigots away ever since this site existed. Also I would extremely not want site admins to define what's bigotry. There's freedom of speech too

Kind of surprised that we are not seeing more radical political ideas built around AI capabilities, the way that early mass industrialization was a prime motivator in the conceptions of capitalism, communism, and socialism.

People don't feel it as a permanent part of their lives yet, because its most popular uses (ChatGPT, Claude Code, etc) are inherently tied to corporations, and corporations are bad at cultural foundations. People associate them with dishonesty.

I understand the complaints about AI on bsky but there's a legitimate question on why "ai discussion on bsky where there's starter packs and anti-ai blocklists are available" is too hard but "ai discussion on a site flooded with actual nazis" isn't.

If I were feeling particularly uncharitable — which i do sometimes — I would say that the reason AI is so virulently controversial in the US in particular is because AI demands a level of active engagement and tinkering that conflicts with our desire to be passive consumers of custom goods.

I don't understand this. Authoritative or even credible information has been insanely hard to find on the internet way before ChatGPT released
020
HotlineInput @hotlineinput.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
It does. Since the first GPT releases, every cost associated with them is decreasing because the technology behind is improving, becoming more effective. Even if we ignore LLMs, teaching models have vastly improved in the last couple years, for example.

being right about crypto and NFTs has made a lot of people far too confident in their judgment. they think the presence of hype means the absence of substance. but crypto was unusual in that it was all hype and almost no substance. every other tech wave is a tougher mix of hype and substance

Crypto's basic problem is that the premise is optimistic but the incentives are for ultra scumbag behavior. So all public messaging is functionally done by MLM schemers because that's who you end up interacting with and the people that build the stack evaporate as they get sick of dealing with them.

HotlineInput @hotlineinput.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Maybe this isn't the right time (nor the right place, for that matter) to say that. You can criticize a technology and supports its way of genuinely making the world a better place, e.g. with saving literal human lives.

HotlineInput @hotlineinput.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
Oh no, no way we'll get AGI anytime soon, just no way, LLMs are extremely far from any semblance of superintelligence.

"Social values" in itself is way too broad of a term for me to trust in it. Of course I admire ideas like open weight models, a form of regulation, or an emphasized importance of human supervision, as these are the directions in which I see the future of AI, but too many opponents lack these naunces

HotlineInput @hotlineinput.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
I wouldn't be surprised if all monetary investment into AI at this point, calculating the actual generated value, even if it's not monetary, would be on return. Like, even if the actual numbers don't add up, there's already value created via LLMs worth as much as creating&maintaining them was.

HotlineInput @hotlineinput.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
Equal enough for me to care more about the one that embraces AI instead of butlerian virtue signaling. But yeah at the end of the day I hope China won't defeat the US; I just don't think the current societal structure of the latter is sustainable. Its not normal that people can sabotage technology

That one I also will never understand, how could they fuck up this bad. For one, I've never had any issue with any data centers because I'm not short-sighted and am aware they are necessary for continued operation of AI, but the fact they let it becoming a curse word is terrible PR.

HotlineInput @hotlineinput.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
I'll be honest, I expected so much worse (and even genuine desire to kill it off) based on what I've seen in social media about AI in the past. But if intention is not about killing it, then I'm not even sure "resistance" is the right word anymore. Of course, that's just nitpicking at this point.
