But isn't that assault?

Can someone explain to me how this person is different than other politicians?

Domestic surveillance is no joke. The government can literally compel companies to grant them access to your online accounts.

Thank you for saying this! Sure, that AI-assisted categorization feature in your Google Photos account is cool, but it means letting this tech see files.

No, we do not need Big Data. The time, money, environmental consequences, and privacy risks aren't worth it.

What about Canadian options?

hordoc2 @hordoc2.bsky.social · 23/07/2026
I was going to suggest Sync before realizing you mean literal clouds.

hordoc2 @hordoc2.bsky.social · 23/07/2026
I highly recommend Sync.com. It's Canadian.

Canadians may be friendly but they don't screw around when it comes to privacy. A form of respect additional to apologizing for everything.

Sync.com has the same attitude as you guys. Will definitely consider pairing these VPNs with their cloud storage.

That's right. Did you know the government can even compel your cloud storage provider to hand your files over for investigation? Your data can and will be used against you in today's reality.

So can pretty much any company you store files with. We need to stop giving our privacy away in unecessarily confusing account terms and conditions.

Glad to see you're on the same page with my interests as a consumer. Sadly, most apps and the companies behind them aren't. My cloud storage provider, Sync.com, is a rare exception.

Newsflash: this applies everywhere online. Think you have a strong password for your personal photo vault? The company that offers it could get in at any time.

Awesome work! What do you think it needs to compete with Google? If that's even possible.

Unfortunately, we're all indirectly supporting this. If you use any kind of product from a Big Tech company, whether it be cloud storage or email, you're filling their pockets.

Its funny how everyone's idea of heaven is a complete untouched paradise, crystal clear waters, lush green forests, enough food for everyone, classless, moneyless, stateless, a Utopia of peace, unity and happiness. But here on earth it's considered a leftist ideology.

True! The average citizen is victim to so much as a result of this collusive system. It's so corrupt, and people don't know or care until they've been screwed over firsthand. Take government access requests, for example. Big Tech companies will willingly hand over personal account data when asked.

hordoc2 @hordoc2.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
Hate to break it to you... so can every other app, website, and even seemingly-private cloud storage platform out there.

hordoc2 @hordoc2.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
Interesting. For those of us who won't bother reading the article, could you explain how exactly this law is so revolutionary?

Absolutely shameful!

PSA: Your risk of an 'account takeover' isn't limited to attacks like this. Lax privacy laws permitting government access requests make every consumer vulnerable to third-party prying. #Cybersecurity #Privacy #PrivacyRights #PersonalData #Hack #InfoSec

It comes back to consumers as well. If you're paying for products by Big Tech companies you're contributing to the problem.

Right? I'm happy to not have to read something about being spied on or exploited for once.

Things are getting bad for Canada, too. Have you heard about its new privacy law? Government overreach at its finest.

True. Just look at their cloud storage scheme. Everything is about making money.

This is a problem. It shouldn't be opt-out. Nothing privacy-related should be nowadays. Google is well-aware the average consumer doesn't know their rights nor the way it violates them.

Curious to hear your arguments on why self-hosting is the right move. I currently use Sync.com. It comes at a cost, sure, but delivers just as much - if not more - value in terms of scalability.

Feel-good theater. The reality is there's no true privacy killswitch nowadays. Big tech companies are giving into government overreach attempts left right and center. What would make data brokers any more accountable?
