Domestic surveillance is no joke. The government can literally compel companies to grant them access to your online accounts.

Thank you for saying this! Sure, that AI-assisted categorization feature in your Google Photos account is cool, but it means letting this tech see files.

Canadians may be friendly but they don't screw around when it comes to privacy. A form of respect additional to apologizing for everything.

That's right. Did you know the government can even compel your cloud storage provider to hand your files over for investigation? Your data can and will be used against you in today's reality.

So can pretty much any company you store files with. We need to stop giving our privacy away in unecessarily confusing account terms and conditions.

Another day, another reminder of why end-to-end encryption should be standard in every online platform.

Newsflash: this applies everywhere online. Think you have a strong password for your personal photo vault? The company that offers it could get in at any time.

Its funny how everyone's idea of heaven is a complete untouched paradise, crystal clear waters, lush green forests, enough food for everyone, classless, moneyless, stateless, a Utopia of peace, unity and happiness. But here on earth it's considered a leftist ideology.

This is a problem. It shouldn't be opt-out. Nothing privacy-related should be nowadays. Google is well-aware the average consumer doesn't know their rights nor the way it violates them.

2/ It’s called Carbon Capture & Storage. To make it work, we’d need to capture CO2 pollution in multiple ways: • Trap it from smoke stacks • Absorb it from the air with grasses/trees, then capture it from those plants when they’re burned for fuel • Scrub it from the air with giant fans

the internet has become too magical. "cloud storage" is sending files to someone elses computer. linking accounts is signing in on someone elses computer. buying things online needs you to send you card info to someone elses computer. everthing takes place on someone elses computer.

Wish she would also identify what the data center will be used for, crypto mining, cloud storage, AI, or ? Crypto should get NO tax breaks and should have to pay high taxes and electrical and water infrastructure charges. Cloud should be audited. Doge has the entire S-S and IRS files somewhere.

7th Cir. holds that Dropbox user consented to having his files searched when he assented to the ToS, even thoug he argued nobody actually reads the ToS. No suppression of child porn Dropbox found and handed over to gov't. @orinkerr.bsky.social gets a cite. media.ca7.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/Opin...
Blocker’s consent. Blocker replies that Dropbox’s terms of service are just so much fine print that he and many other users accept because they want to use the service, and he asks us to hold that the terms are not clear enough to consent to a search in which a public body such as the Center has an interest. Three courts of appeals appear to have adopted that approach. See United States v. Lowers, 170 F.4th 134, 145–48 (4th Cir. 2026); United States v. Maher, 120 F.4th 297, 307–09 (2d Cir. 2024); United States v. Warshak, 631 F.3d 266, 286–87 (6th Cir. 2010). We acknowledge that few people pore over consumer contracts or try to grasp how they might work in practice. See Omri Ben-Shahar & Carl E. Schneider, More Than You Wanted to Know: The Failure of Mandated Disclosure (2014). Yet the fact that a contract is lengthy and poorly understood does not justify reading it with a thumb on the scale. The language of this contract unambiguously permits Dropbox to scan all files at its option and reveal the contents for five specified purposes—and Blocker does not deny that, having discovered child porn, one or more of these purposes applies.
