hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Always nice to discover that my employer thinks I took 4 weeks of unpaid leave WHEN I DIDN’T and have now only paid me a fraction of my salary. Gah! 111
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Well it was a fabulous week last week out in Cumbria along Hadrian’s wall. Sadly it was back to work today and all the hassle that involves. Sigh. 121
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Hadrian’s wall today, nr Housesteads Fort. It is just breathtaking up there. The wind, the sun, the rain, the ancientness of the landscape. I’d forgotten how much it gets into your soul. No-where quite like it. 270
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Visited Carlisle Cathedral today. It is way more stunning than I imagined. The roof is simply incredible and that’s before we mention that east window. Very warm welcome too. 161
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 25/09/20261141 miles to Rome. Thanks you Bewcastle for a fascinating hour’s exploration. 110
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Love the arrivals board. Saw large skeins of pink foots flying over the Solway Firth this week, so they’re already here. 130
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Also visited Thirwell castle, now ruins, close to Hadrian’s wall. It was probably home to Percival Thirwall who was Richard III’s standard bearer and died at the Battle of Bosworth. 121
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 24/09/2026It’s not just any wall, it’s Hadrian’s wall. Had a fab day out exploring castles and Roman forts and the wall. My legs are fair done in now. 140
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Appear to have accidentally arrived in heaven due to road closures sending us the wrong way. Now in an amazing cafe looking over the river waiting for my haggis on toast. #glencaple 140
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Finally made it onto the wall. The view from Banks East turret car park is just magnificent. My little phone doesn’t do it justice. #cumbria #hadrianswall 141
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Been enjoying Lannercost Priory this Morning. Well worth a visit 280
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 17/09/2026How many pairs of scissors did my mother need in her sewing box? Includes two pairs of pinking shears. I suspect many were hand me downs from my grandmothers. Not quite sure what to do with them all. 4192
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I was sorting out some old lace trim of my grandmother’s yesterday. Turns out it was wrapped around this - an in-house magazine for Lever Brothers from 1922. So I’m now wondering if the lace had been wrapped round it since 1922. I suspect so. 340
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 12/09/2026The old heating and the new at St Peter’s Kirby Bellars this afternoon. 141
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Well that’s @legionofllama.bsky.social off on Ride and Stride. First church done, let’s see if he can reach the other 19 on his list today. #rideandstride 011
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Been sorting more of my mum’s sewing stuff today which mostly seems to be made up of both my grandma’s sewing kit. Love these old threads I found. Not much use but pretty to look at. Am now down to just 4 boxes of thread. I am slowly winning sorting all this stuff. #sewing 150
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Nigella seed heads. I shook most of the seeds out to give me some plants next year. 050
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Commemorative plaque in Loughborough, remembering those who died in a Zepplin raid on the town in January 1916. 000
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Looking up into the chestnut tree on the village green. Love how the sunlight filters through the leaves. 050
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Quite excited we placed second in the village scarecrow competition with our version of Midsomer Murders 120
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Today I have emptied all the cleaning materials from the cupboard in the utility room. When we cleared my parents’ house we shoved all their cleaning stuff in with ours. Now I get to sort and rationalise it. We have way too much (but it will all be useful at some point) 110
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 27/08/2026I can confirm it’s a bit wet out there. I’m guessing we’re having more rain today than the last three months combined. 121
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 27/08/2026The storm is almost upon us. Constant lightning lights up the sky. Rumbles are non stop. Just waiting for the rain to actually hit #ukweather 020
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Cute little gates on the south door of St Mary, Thorpe Arnold, Leicestershire. We were exploring locally this afternoon and walked down to the new Pork Pie Way. 031
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Ah great start to a day in the office. Just broke my computer glasses. Bah! 100
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 23/08/2026Just revisiting the Children’s Make and Do book where children are encouraged to drop smouldering blotting paper into a cardboard box. Can see anything could possibly go wrong with that. 131
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Having spent the last hour attempting to re silicone our shower tray, I am in awe of plumbers and tilers who do this everyday. HOW DO YOU NOT GET THE STUFF EVERYWHERE? #diychallenges 260
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 19/08/2026Ooo a little rain shower passed through. That was nice. I remember them from months ago. 010
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Waking up and discovering that we had actual proper rain last night for the first time in two months feels a bit like waking up on Christmas morning and discovering that it snowed over night #yay #ukdrought 040
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 16/08/2026Just got bitten by a blue tit I was trying to rescue. Ow. Silly bird. Let me help you. (It has now been rescued, but who knew blue tits were that viscous) 360
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 12/08/2026Have woken up with the Shake’n’Vac song stuck in my head as an ear worm. Thanks brain. 250
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 09/08/2026Oooo, a new visitor to the garden, taking advantage of the bird’s water bowl. Glad we don’t have chickens at the moment. #wildlifenews 041
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 06/08/2026My view today. We *just* managed to scrape along the Coventry canal on my cousin’s boat. Kept hitting the bottom as water is so low. Had a great day all the same. #canalboating 071
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 03/08/2026We did sea glass creations at WI tonight. This was my humble effort. 050
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 30/07/2026So we’re doing a scarecrow festival at the end of next month. Thinking about something with a Midsommer Murders theme. Would this be too much for the local kids? Don’t want to traumatise them. #scarecrows 110
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 30/07/2026There is ACTUAL RAIN falling from the skies. Well, rain might be a slight exaggeration. Mizzle might be a better word. There is actual mizzle falling from the skies. Been so long I’d forgotten what it was like. 040
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 28/07/2026I also wondered where the stones had gone out of my little green bowl. And now I know. The magpies picked them up and walked off with them. They are naughty fellows. 030
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 28/07/2026I use the card reader to get the pics off my wildlife cam. I was wondering what was damaging the plants in my barrel pond. I think I have the answer, an entire family of magpies who are hanging round the entire time. Seen here in a stand off with the squirrel. 040
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 28/07/2026In the world’s most amazing news, I stuck my usb card reader through the wash - again. It’s now been through the washing machine twice and it STILL WORKS. But the replacement OH bought for me keeps crashing my entire machine. It’s true they don’t make things like they used to. 😀 030
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 25/07/2026Enjoyed our walk through the Ashbourne Railway tunnel earlier. We’ve driven through the town many times but I never knew this was hiding underneath. Well worth a visit. 150
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 24/07/2026Are you sure we can’t just put them in the recycling bin? #hopeful 010
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 20/07/2026Ahh lovely. Good to know when you use the office scanner to email scanned files to yourself, the office email system decides they’re all spam and bins them. Great job there technology. 020
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 18/07/2026Am attempting to restore an antique sheepskin rug which I rescued from my parent’s house. I washed the rug yesterday using specialist liquid and laid it out in the bath overnight to drip dry. This morning the bathroom smells of wet sheep. Lovely. I am aware this effort may not be successful. 120
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 13/07/2026Huzzah, just persuaded some chap to take away all the old 78 records I discovered in my parent’s house. And he even gave me £30 for the privilege. Winning. At least I didn’t have to take them to the tip. 050
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 12/07/2026Another fascinating postcard from my parents’ collection: the shooting down of a German Zeppelin over Suffolk on the night of 17th June 1917. Apparently only 3 out of the 18 crew survived. 131
hordeofduck @hordeofduck.bsky.social · 11/07/2026Another old postcard, this time of Reedham ferry in Norfolk. Apart from the car I’m not sure it’s changed much. 020
