On the day of the biggest far-right demonstration in our country’s history, 2 non-league football matches were abandoned in the West Midlands because of racist abuse. In the current atmosphere, racists feel emboldened to abuse people. It is a very depressing time.

Grateful to @hopestreetblues.bsky.social for helping raise awareness of #airpollution in Bear Bookshop, Bearwood 😊 @mumsforlungs.bsky.social

A man (Justin) is sitting behind a counter in a book shop holding up two flyers:

One reads ‘VEHICLE EXHAUST IS TOXIC please turn off your engine when stationary. Air pollution can be 3 times higher inside your car’

The other reads:
WOOD BURNING FEELS COSY,
BUT THE SCIENCE IS NOW CLEAR BURNING ANY KIND OF SOLID FUEL IN A HOME POLLUTES THE HOMEOWNER
AND THEIR NEIGHBOURS. Domestic combustion, mostly from burning wood in stoves and open fires, releases more particulate matter pollution (PM2.5) than road
traffic in the UK.1 PM2.5 is a particularly harmful form of air pollution which lodges deeply
in the lungs, brain and other organs. Even the newest Defra approved stove triples the PM2.5 within a home, emits several hundred times more pollution than a gas boiler and is more expensive to run
An open fire emits over 4000 times more PM2.5 than a gas boiler

As a result of the transfer of wealth to the super rich, there’s nothing left for the rest of the population. That’s why there’s no growth and why public services have collapsed. AI won’t save us #taxwealthnotwork

Good point about perspective and ‘sleeping on it’. I’ve also found ‘If there’s a crisis, walk up to it slowly’ useful to get your head in the game.

I understand the sentiment behind dry January, but if you don't want to commit to this, I've an alternative. Pub January, where you stop in at your local hostelry, have a drink and support a sector that is in danger of shrinking into obscurity, and with it a large of part of our heritage.
