Here's a more skittish species from my experience, a Zebra Longwing. Despite the flower this one is perched on, I've noticed they better prefer the large red flowers in the area. #Bugs #Butterflies #Flowers #Nature #iNaturalist

Here's a notably small species of bee, a Pure Green Sweat Bee. While lacking the usual fuzzy exterior bees usually have, I think its vibrant green shell makes up for it in appearance. #Bugs #Bees #Nature #iNaturalist

Here's an active one I found at a ravine, a Rosy Wolfsnail. These seemed to pop up everywhere after I started looking for them, goes to show how little people notice things all around them. #Bugs #Snails #Mollusks #Nature #iNaturalist

I saw only one of these on the 1st of this month, a Halloween Pennant dragonfly. Fittingly seasonal, I was saving this image for today. Happy Halloween! #Bugs #Dragonflies #Nature #Halloween #iNaturalist

These little guys are everywhere here, they're Southern Flatcoil snails. They're all up-and-down the ditches after it rains, climbing up on the grass like this one. #Bugs #Snails #Mollusks #Nature #iNaturalist

Here's one of the largest beetles I've found so far, a Grapevine Beetle. We found this one under the mulch of our garden while we were uprooting weeds, it flew away shortly after we got pictures. #Bugs #Beetles #Nature #Gardening #iNaturalist

This one's a mouthful, a Six-Spotted Flower Longhorn Beetle. Originally I was just going over to take a picture of the Spot Flower it was on, it's so small I didn't notice it until I got close. #Bugs #Beetles #Plants #Flowers #Nature #iNaturalist

Here's a very subtle one, a Dark Flower Scarab. These spend their time hidden under the grass, I only found this one because I saw it before it went under the brush. #Bugs #Beetles #Nature #iNaturalist

Here's a lovely beetle I found in a ravine, Euphoria Limbalis. I don't know much about them, but its bright green color makes it a personal favorite of mine. #Bugs #Beetles #Nature #iNaturalist

Here's one to emphasize the swamp areas around here, a Duckweed Firetail. Their bright red contrast to the plants they land on makes them easy to see, as they often perch on floating aquatic plants. #Bugs #Damselflies #Swamps #Nature #iNaturalist

Now for something different, like this Ebony Jewelwing damselfly. I found these in a ravine, at the bottom with the cool air and flowing water. I find its choice of habitat very agreeable. #Bugs #Damselflies #Nature #iNaturalist

These ones we only started seeing in our area recently, the Eastern Pondhawk. I usually find these ones low to the ground, darting around as they snatch up other insects. #Bugs #Dragonflies #Nature #iNaturalist

Here's one that rarely perches for a picture, a Carolina Saddlebags dragonfly. This is one of the brown ones, but they can also be bright red, which I'll gladly share if I get a good picture of one. #Bugs #Dragonflies #Nature #iNaturalist

Mixing it up for Autumn, here's an Eastern Amberwing. They're a small species of dragonfly, this one was on one of our Beautyberry plants. Dragonflies have been showing up more since the start of October, so I have a good few to share. #Bugs #Dragonflies #Nature #Plants #iNaturalist

Here's a very large one for today, a Spicebush Swallowtail. While we only see 1-2 at a time in passing, the size of their wings announces them pretty well, allowing for a fun sight when they're around. #Bugs #Butterflies #Nature #iNaturalist

Here's another one, similar to yesterday's: a Pearl Crescent. These ones sport more round spots on their wings and usually only one shade of orange, a good way of telling the difference between these and the Phaons. #Bugs #Butterflies #Nature #iNaturalist

Now for this beauty, a Palamedes Swallowtail on a milkweed. At the time we made the mistake of getting Tropical Milkweed, but got rid of it before the colder seasons. We've since replaced it with the more native Swamp and Butterfly Milkweed. #Bugs #Butterflies #Flowers #iNaturalist #Nature

On a wooded section of the East Coast Trail. The golden, late-day light was kind of special.

Photo of a trail through small coniferous trees. The trail is moss-lined. At the end of the visible trail, the light appears to have a golden glow.
