A proper type system in GDScript. But all these stuff is also pretty cool!

As soon as I get out of bed, I'm starting to add network multiplayer to my tabletop-like game. I hope it won't take me a whole week to do it. 😅

If in this world work doesn't suck ass, why did a stickman stop working and started kicking ass? 🤨

That's why I'm never afraid of spoilers: by the time I'll get to play or watch something, I'll forget everything I heard about it. 😅 And even if I won't, knowledge won't make cool stuff any less cool.

Declaring chii with no yaku and being unnecessarily horny, I guess.
A riichi mahjong table from the game Riichi City. It's the third turn, nobody have opened their hands yet. The player has 1, 2, 2, 5, 6 and 9 of Man, 6 of Pin, 4, 5 (akadora), 6, 7 and 8 of Sou, and one south wind, which is valueless. They are presented with an option to declare chii on the left player's 9 of Sou.

This is a thing that makes me develop games! I still can't be calm about the fact that there are people who play my game RIGHT NOW. And it's more than 10 people too! What?

I'd say, do what you do, don't listen to prophets of The Right Way™️. The best way to code is the one that brings you joy and lets you finish the game.

The problem I see with tutorials is that they explain simple things in a complicated way. In the end, state machine is just a concept, it can be expressed as a concoction of classes and nodes or it just can be `enum State` and three functions: `transition`, `enter_state` and `exit_state`.

Oh, that's super cool, haven't think of it this way. Personally, I prefer using nodes for visual stuff and not using them for non-visual ones, like state machines. And sometimes it's just easier to call RenderingServer directly instead of using nodes.

Just spent 2 hours on a piece of game juice that looked way better in my head. Damn, I felt smart doing all the math only to realize that it just doesn't work! And it was a thing that happens for, like, 0.1 second! I want my 2 hours back!

I'm very proud of this game! We put a lot of effort in visuals and it was a first game I had to code a level editor for (dev only for now, but I'd like to add it to the game in the future). Go play it if you're into this kind of games! It's free!

Despite hating GDScript for its syntax, shabby type system, and counter-intuitive features (like `.bind` that binds last arguments of the function or `range` that's inclusive on both ends), I must admit, I do enjoy instant compilation. Thank you for reminding me of this quite important aspect!

It seems like they just closed one PR, but didn't give up on a feature. 🤔 Maybe they need some more time to work out the implementation details.

Honestly, I think GDScript better than python. It would be better, thought, if it didn't resemble python so much.

Thanks to you, today I learned about Koi-Koi. I guess, the word "yaku" triggered my curiosity. 😅 On topic, I agree. There are areas of programming where GDScript feels a bit lacking. I'd switch to a more conventional programming language myself if I could.

Honestly, I was surprised how early in our career we needed to basically compile the engine. It was for export templates that have everything we don't use stripped. Sucks that it can't be done for all platforms from one machine. :(

I'd say Kingsway, but that would be cheating, the whole game is UI. :D

Our first game "Tens!" has been globally released on Poki! 🥳 It's a puzzle game where you select numbers that add up to 10 to clear as much space on the grid as possible. Play it here: poki.com/en/g/tens #gamedev #indiedev #webgames

State machines are *the* most important concept to learn in game development (maybe even beyond games). I'm looking forward to see your implementation. :)

Funny thing with game development is that sometimes you feel the solution you've built is bad. But it works, and you have more things to figure out, so you move on. Then it breaks, and you know it's time to build an FSM to replace it. And it'll be fine, as now you understand your limitations.

I agree that the title is a little misleading, but that was what message me click the video. :) And, to be fair, author doesn't say "throw away your nodes and go pure Vulkan", they just share an insight they found. Good video, I recommend watching it!

I watched the video before, and that's exactly what they're talking about. They got into performance problems trying to instantiate about 900 nodes in one frame. They resolved it by utilizing RenderingServer directly.
