Looking forward to Bristol Photo Festival symposium tomorrow, and then the book launch at ICA next week of 'Arrows of Desire' - a new anthology writings of Peter Wollen edited by Nicolas Helm Grovas and Oliver Fuke (who commissioned the first public part of my project 'Markéta's Notes' in 2022).

I'm not so good at talking about my research online but gradually points may come to the surface, right time and place. Hopefully!

Digital obscuration very on-point for where I found myself by the end of the PhD with BFI National Archives... (which I submitted end of August - and haven't stated here yet - hurrah, phew, I did it. That thesis data-universe still existing as open tabs, which I am slowly closing down... filing...)

The post really speaks to the shift I experienced in my years of PhD research and archive use - with interfaces and 'access', and the human caretaker. I really went in for advocating for archivists since no human labour is a given with technological changes in information science & conservation.

Great piece! Your framing of what is obscured is really important, and also the OCR analogy of the wrong shelf among other things! - spoken as an archive user and online researcher too. My thesis pulled back from my initial notions of value aligned with 'access' by the end of my PhD, because of AI.

Delivered a day of theory and practice in artist moving image to a group of Bath Fine Art students yesterday... it was great! Here's how it started though - a huge haulage truck diverted onto a steep B-road, with some Lynn Chadwick bronzes on the move. Commuting with moving sculpture thrown in.💚
Large bronze sculptures by Lynn Chadwick on the back of a haulage vehicle going uphill. The spectacle is viewed through the wet windowpane of a car on a rainy day, with grey skies.

Zero Hour: the campaign for climate and nature @zero-hour.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
🔥 This week's climate-driven heatwave has made it clear: the UK is dangerously unprepared for the impacts of climate change and nature breakdown. Our NHS is overwhelmed, our homes are overheating, and our food systems are under threat. This can’t go on. 🧵

Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti at risk in Israeli jails as he faces ‘escalating abuse’
‘Palestine’s Mandela’ suffers three recent attacks including assault where prison guards set a dog on him, lawyer says Jailed Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti is at immediate risk in Israeli jails, where he has been attacked three times in as many weeks, including in one assault last month where prison guards set a dog on the 66-year-old, his lawyer has said. Barghouti is often called Palestine’s Nelson Mandela. He is respected across otherwise feuding Palestinian factions, has broad popular support across occupied Palestine, repeatedly engaged with Israeli officials before his detention and long backed a two-state solution. Completely stoked about Hannah Spencer's win in Gorton and Denton. Goodwin pulled faces throughout her victory speech like a surly schoolboy. While he recedes into the distance let nothing distract from her powerful words and message of hope. Really looking forward to hearing more from her as MP 💚 🔥

Labour’s *majority* in Gorton and Denton in 2024 – just 19 months ago – was 13,000+. Tonight it got fewer than 10,000 votes total, on an almost identical turnout. In its heartland. That’s what a collapse of your core vote looks like.

I know everyone is focused on politics at Gorton and Denton. I am focussing on a female plumber being the new MP I have to say this is bloody marvellous. A gain for Parliament, a loss for her profession I am sure. We always need more plumbers and sparkies and brickies, and female ones at that.
