❄️Japan 2026 After driving back from our hot spring holiday up in the mountains, @snares.bsky.social introduced me to one of the best refuelling spots I have ever put into my belly. There’s nothing like stuffing your face into a steaming bowl of deliciousness on a winter’s day.

❄️Japan 2026 We spotted a meow-meow by the entrance of a shop whilst walking around the back streets of Kusatsu. Let the meow-meows in. They want to be warm.

I’ve been running the iOS 27 Beta, and I found an absolutely joyous use for Siri. So on Mastodon and Bluesky, you are encouraged to include alternate descriptions for images. Siri does an amazing job at that! Let’s continue making technology more inclusive for the world!

❄️Japan 2026 Settled into our cozy room, @snares.bsky.social and I ventured out to find dinner, and we stumbled into what look like a little nondescript place at the foot of the onsen falls. What followed was a really hearty meal that kept us nice and warm. Also, 8 pictures in a Bluesky post!

There is someone on the bus who thinks wearing this ultra bright LED thing on their bag as an accessory is “kewl”. Also, the passenger also did the whole “rub my nose and slide my fingers into my hair” manoeuvre. And they were seated in the priority seats on a packed bus. Kewl.

❄️Japan 2026 @snares.bsky.social and I made a trip back to Kusatsu and back to one of the places we stayed before. That said, I seemed to have selected the family room during my booking, so imagine our surprise to see this huggggggeeeeeee room. There were like… 4 beds. And a hanging chair.

❄️ Japan 2026 HEWWO SNOWW @snares.bsky.social and I were headed back to our favourite onsen town for a post-JMoF bit of hot spring action. Here we are at the base of our soon-to-be climb into the mountains with our highly capable Toyota Corolla Touring.

❄️Japan 2026 There’s nothing better on a chilly winter’s evening than a bowl… … of cold udon. With eggs. And all the accoutrements for a hearty meal to stay nice and warm. 🍜 Marugame Seimen

Something sliced into the sole of the pair of Sketchers shoes I wear for work, so I had to pick up a new pair. Based on the smoothness of that shoe sole, it was already due for replacement anyway. Horse shoes are expensive.

❄️Japan 2026 This year for #JMoF2026, we stayed at one of the hotels near Toyohashi station, which turned out to be really nice.

Oh! I forgot to post the desserts from that dinner with @snares.bsky.social. Here, we present a sago in coconut cream and gula melaka (brown sugar syrup).

#FoodPorn Trying out a new hawker centre and here we have some duck aglio olio and a chargrilled chicken chop. Not pictured is a massive fish and chips. Very tasty and relatively affordable. The aglio olio was very well balanced with no element overpowering each other.

Maximising my mileage in this day and age is super important. Almost every drive is an opportunity to hypermile (which I already do and I love to do). Eventually when we do switch to an EV, I’ll be happy to see how much more further I can push the range.

Ahhhhhhhhhh! @snares.bsky.social is a brilliant and lucky cat! We finally spotted the Bu2ma (不二马) figurines in blind boxes at a shop and we took a calculated gamble. With the expert lion paws, we managed to get this awesome figurine on the first try! Just love the expression and the cuteness!

❄️Japan 2026 One of the things that popped up on our radar as our trip was nearing was the Tokyo Mega Illumination at one of the horse racing tracks in #Tokyo. Here there be lights. And horses.

❄️Japan 2026 We saw this on a documentary and this structure in the Shibuya underground is apparently where water from the Shibuya River flows through a concrete channel.

❄️Japan 2026 Yeah, just wait for the next train. Don’t lose your carrots over missing the train. Keep your heads and hooves between the lines, and dont rush for the doors when they are closing. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself on a poster in the Japanese subway.
