It becomes harder to detect when I put videos in a YT playlist because it won't tell which videos were deleted 🥲

Don't you get problems where YT will delete songs and reupload them to a different topic/channel? I always prefer to share songs from YT so people don't have to log in, but I keep finding the links dead a few months later

Nice. I think marketing and advertising is really cool and useful. That's basically what every artist and gamedev is doing online but on a smaller scale. Idk what the employment is like, but you might get to work with some really cool people and a lotta industries

Good dubbing is just really hard to come by. You're not old or anything. The dialogue and writing in media overall is pretty lame anyway. A good dub will not make me watch Jujutsu Kaisen.

I feel the same way about a certain Linux distro receiving $12m in funds. I literally don't have to use it and I get it for *free* (unlike Minecraft), but I can't help talking about how that money is wasted on such worthless efforts and poor results that anyone else could've done better.

said I'm extremely thankful to the Fabric modders. They do a great job and the changing MC internals don't hold em back. Meanwhile Microsoft is paying full salaries to develop datapacks for Java and it's extremely baffling how they're going about it. It's so much wasted potential, time, and money.

Hold on! @holdon.templeoftherat.com · 06/09/2026
Funny thing is, the default worldgen JSON is clearly generated by Microsoft's internal tools but they don't share that. Also it's not available in bedrock. I have no clue what they're doing but we can see that this is the dumbest thing ever conceived right? Why use this instead of Fabric?
100
Hold on! @holdon.templeoftherat.com · 06/09/2026
MC internals change frequently but this doesn't stop anyone from making mod APIs and tooling. Things break, modders update it, and we move on. With data packs we get nothing. No code, no tools, and no stability. I don't know why Microsoft bothers with some data pack features in Java Edition at all.

Also ZERO tooling. I have to create my own tools which themselves are augmented versions of Misode's tools and docs (God bless this man). Custom syntax, custom LSP, and a visualizer which Misode reverse-engineered from Minecraft's internals.

Hold on! @holdon.templeoftherat.com · 03/09/2026
Is THIS why MC keeps warning me that my custom world gen is experimental? I finally connected the dots. Every field in this article has a warning that it is being renamed, deleted, or newly added in various MC versions. minecraft.wiki/w/Density_fu... Zero official docs btw. 100% community-sourced

Some random junk I found while browsing "terrain" on modrinth. I think it's related to Minecraft Beta

Give me a Minecraft terrain mod that's more noisy and has more small cliffs, plateaus, and ledges. If you need to screenshot your terrain mod from 1000 blocks in the air, then your terrain is too large and it'll feel flat during gameplay. <-- good BAD -->

I was barely old enough to remember using win 98 and XP but, regardless, BSoDs were so common that it's now permanently embedded in our culture. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IW7R... A buggy website isn't comparable to a BSoD but we really take for granted the people that care to make software work.

It used to be a constant daily problem and now it's not. I can't say the last time I've ever seen a bluescreen. Last time was probably when I installed a CSGO hack on a crappy laptop (which often have buggy 3rd party drivers)

The issue is less about kids using ChatGPT and more about poisoned business culture. We can have good monopolies like Steam but there are fewer people with money today who care about quality. The culture has shifted and there are thousands of interconnected reasons for that which we can't understand

"How many people will use a Mac? Five million? Say you shave 10 seconds off boot time. That's 50 million seconds saved — every single day." -Steve Jobs Bill Gates oversaw quality at Microsoft and vanquished the BSoD, saving hundreds of years of lost work. He was not a saint but he was decent.

This effectively sells Rust as "the language for AI, complete with guardrails." Rust has its uses, but for anything fun or creative like gamedev it is extremely un-ergonomic. Whether Zig is appropriate for Bun is a different discussion, but now there's less funding for langs that devs will love.
120
Hold on! @holdon.templeoftherat.com · 08/08/2026
Unfortunately this affects Zig, a native lang which I really love and which is comparable to Jai for my usecase (gamedev etc). Bun is heavily vibecoded as of late. They rewrote its code from Zig to Rust and pulled their funding from Zig. They want Rust as a safety measure around their generated code

It happened AGAIN! Both times while alt-tabbing and(?) while I had Helium browser open. Why Helium browser? Because the Chrome Flatpak can't run WebGL. Why Chrome? Because Firefox gives broken stack traces for wasm apps. I'm done with Linux for now. It's been fun y'all.

My desktop suddenly turned solid black and I can't see anything. Returning to the lock screen showed something for 1 second and now it's stuck as black again. I can hear the volume controls working, it's just the display that's broken. Now I have to reboot my PC again and lose all my work.

Because chapter 5 is gameplay with minor plot. I felt strangely isolated. The darkeners are simple creatures living in the moment and they act distant to me. Susie does nothing so I think she should've run off with Noelle and maybe leave us alone to bond with someone new.

Theoretically I could publish an executable that installs itself and its icon to your start menu. It seems app listings are kept here. Does everyone else have this directory? Also, VSCode isn't present here, so the icon is installed some *other* way. So how did vscode.deb install its icon???

Hold on! @holdon.templeoftherat.com · 23/07/2026
Now I'm playing the package game: apt install fuse? fuse2fs? Nope. Ohhh it's "libfuse2". How come other AppImages didn't need FUSE? Maybe I was on a distro with FUSE pre-installed a while back. I'm starting to understand a fundamental problem with app distribution on Linux now.
120
Hold on! @holdon.templeoftherat.com · 23/07/2026
Okay so AppImage doesn't always work. GearLever is really nice and gives the apps a nice icon and puts them in my apps menu but it I couldn't figure out the error. I had to re-dowload the AppImage (GearLever deleted/moved the original file) and play the terminal game to see what's up.

I'm being told by three other people now that this is an extremely common issue. It's a shame because I like using the sleep button so I can go to bed and leave all my work open.
010
Hold on! @holdon.templeoftherat.com · 23/07/2026
Do NOT let Linux go into sleep mode because when you wake it the screen might be stuck looking blank and you'll be forced to reboot it, killing whatever you had open. This is default btw.

Nightmare-level difficulty: Distribute Windows binaries from Linux. If I cross-compile from Linux with GCC or whatever then it won't statically link some runtime garbage and 80% of Windows users can't run it without installing some extra garbage (VC++ redist files)

Yeahh I think I'll have to set aside most of my Linux complaints as Nvidia problems or installer problems. It seems stable once installed... for now (and so long as I avoid 3rd party flatpaks and snaps)

Hold on! @holdon.templeoftherat.com · 21/07/2026
Got Kubuntu working. Installing Nvidia drivers was a breeze. I just ran "sudo ubuntu-drivers install" and restarted. Installing .deb files is easier than I remember, although the installer makes you wait for it to load some package info before you can click install. Kinda annoying.

More notes: Fedora messed up my Windows install, says it's in "hibernate" and can't be written to. No boot option for Windows anywhere. Not sure how to repair it. Ubuntu has always been good with dual-boot installations and laptops. Seems like that still holds up.

Hold on! @holdon.templeoftherat.com · 21/07/2026
I went to install Kubuntu, because hopefully Ubuntu will give me the GPU drivers I need to run KDE Plasma. I clicked "install" and it turned gray. Lang picker doesn't work. I can still select a network. It's doing nothing right now. KDE distros are on a losing streak. Can't even install it.

Which distro have you been on the longest, and for how long?
100
Hold on! @holdon.templeoftherat.com · 21/07/2026
I even reverse engineered CS2 on Linux not long ago. Pretty sure it was using my GPU just fine. I was most likely using Ubuntu at the time

So it's not using my GPU as I suspected and nothing really seems to fix it. I don't think it's possible with a card as old as mine. For giggles, I had an AI try to fix it and it bricked the install. Let's see how Ubuntu fares again.

Ubuntu, MX Linux + XFCE, Mint (with KDE?), Fedora with Gnome and KDE. They all have various quirks but it's been a really long time since I bothered with em.

Hold on! @holdon.templeoftherat.com · 20/07/2026
Fedora Gnome is still a bit laggy. Small menus have crazy lag when scrolling and the cursor can't keep up. It's just like my overheated laptop running on battery saver mode. I can't remember if my Ubuntu install was better than this. Do I switch distros *again*?

I'm used to websites giving me a fishy shell command that executes some remote script which does this for me, Docker being one of em.
