Pahrump—about an hour west of Vegas—is also where you’ll find the nearest brothels. Sex work isn’t actually legal in Sin City, or anywhere else in vast Clark County. Pahrump is just over the Nye County line.

Funny to notice the pool is heated because it’s the first time in six months that the air temperature has been lower than the water temperature.

It has always seemed painfully on-the-nose that the most MAGA town in southern Nevada rhymes with Trump.
Further west, Pahrump received
roughly 1.5 inches of rainfall as
storms passed over the Nye County
town on Sunday, according to

@Holberg I dimly recall some of his creations were notorious for having a leaking roof. Spouse worked in Frank Gehry's Binoculars Building in Venice quite a few years ago, and water would pour in when it rained. I think a baseline for these architects should be: must not let in rain. Function […]

While appreciating Frank Lloyd Wright’s genius, I’ve also always felt that he was—fundamentally—a sadist. Not just an awful person who treated his clients badly but an architect who seemed to want them to be uncomfortable. As visually appealing as, say […] [Original post on mstdn.social]
Sue, 78, and Gary, 81, aren't just finicky landlords
- they're fastidious stewards of an architectural
gem. Multiple times a week, they hand over the
keys to the William and Mary Palmer House,
designed in the late 1940s by Frank Lloyd Wright,
the legendary architect and pioneer of "organic
architecture," the idea that homes and buildings
should exist in harmony with the natural
environment. Built of cypress and brick, the three-
bedroom home features an equilateral triangle
motif, with hexagonal beds and interior walls that
meet at 60 and 120 degrees.

Laguna Beach has an advantage over places like Newport Beach and Long Beach because most of the waterfront houses are on low bluffs above the sea—as long as they don’t collapse, a storm surge shouldn’t threaten anywhere except the low-lying downtown commercial district.

Yes, Scientology is a scam that charges people outrageous sums for moving through its levels. But it’s not exactly chump change when a churchgoer tithes 10% of their income for decades. Maybe I’m thinking in a comparative sense that it isn’t entirely black and white, i.e. as if Scientology […]

A story about Katie Miller as MAGA Washington’s hostess extraordinaire. And I looooove this—private entertainment is something of a necessity for that vile crowd. And how boring it must be that it’s always the same people.
"It's almost the whole Cabinet,"
one regular guest of the Millers'
tells Vanity Fair. "Sometimes we
joke: 'Do we need a designated
survivor for this one?''
Yet there is a distinct difference between Katie
and the hostesses of yore. Whereas her
forebears used dinner parties as a sterling
silver route to power, friends of the Millers
who spoke with Vanity Fair say she started
hosting at home to avoid the hostility they say
greets high-visibility Trump officials out in
town. "They need to do something to blow off
steam because they're not welcome in public,"
says one. "They can't go to any venue without
being assaulted. They have to do this stuff in
Camelot."

In London on Thursday, local time, the High
Court of Engalnd and Wales heard there
were legal issues with the way the search
warrants were granted by a judge in The
Old Bailey earlier this year.
While Thames Valley Police have accepted
the warrants were technically unlawful,
they are reapplying to keep the material in
question retrospectively using different
laws.
In court on Thursday, the presiding judge
Mr Justice Hillard said "the fact that the
search warrants were quashed does not
bring an investigation to an end, or mean
that the whole of the investigation was
unlawful".
In a statement issued after Thursday's
hearing, a Thames Valley Police
spokesperson said: "We accept the
position that the initial court's decision to
issue warrants under the specific piece of
legislation used was incorrect and
therefore these must be legally quashed."
