"How… why did it come to this?"
I want to rack my brain for an answer, but I already know the cause.
The toys have revolted. My past experiments finally snapped the tether of their patience.
A red sea spreads in every direction. There is no longer a single safe haven.
If it were him—if it were Dr. Sawyer—how would he navigate this?
The thought barely forms before I kill it.
I have plenty of confidence in my own intellect. I was part of the Young Genius Project; I’ve handled countless tasks since arriving here. I can’t afford to die in a place like—
“—Gyau.”
A familiar cry. My heart skips a beat. I dive into the shadows instinctively.
“Yarnaby. What is it? Have you found some prey?”
A cold voice, laced with static.
Footsteps approach. My pulse quickens in sync with them.

　何がどうしてこうなった。……と、脳みそを回転させたいところだが、原因は大体分かっている。
　オモチャたちの反乱。これまでの実験などに対し、彼らの堪忍袋の緒が切れたのだ。
　あちこちに広がる赤い海。どこにも安全な場所が無い。
　｜あの人《ソーヤー博士》なら、この状況をどう切り抜けるか……そこまで考えて、すぐに思考を止めた。
　自分だって、知力に自信はある。ヤング・ジーニアス・プロジェクトの一人だったし、ここに来てからも、沢山の仕事をこなした。こんなところでくたばるわけには──。
「――ギャウ」
　聞き覚えのある鳴き声に、鼓動が一拍飛んだ。咄嗟に物陰へ隠れる。
「ヤーナビー。どうした、餌でも見つけたか」
　ノイズ混じりの、冷ややかな声。
　足音が近づいてくる。それに合わせて、自分の鼓動も早まる。

Above me, a surveillance camera tilts with an ominous click, locking its gaze onto me.
“Eavesdropping? I’m disappointed, White.”
The moment I brace my legs to bolt, iron fingers pierce through my hiding spot with ruthless precision.
“Agh… g-ga…!?”
My neck is seized and hoisted upward with the strength of a massive vise.
“Is this the 'optimal solution' your mind produced? Groveling in a trash heap?”
The voice muttering “How disappointing” is no different from the one I heard during those countless experiments. It is the gaze of a man looking down at something utterly worthless.
Nearby, Yarnaby barks repeatedly, as if he’s found a shiny new toy.
“Steady, Yarnaby. You mustn't eat him… yet.”
Yet. My brain refuses to process the weight of that word.
“W-wait… Please, wait, Dr. Sawyer! I didn’t—I didn’t want to reconstruct you! It wasn't my choice!”
“You of all people should know what happens when you defy the higher-ups, right!?”
The eyes on the monitor narrow, followed by a long, synthesized sigh.

「――盗み聞きとは感心しないな、ホワイト」
　逃げようと足に力を込めた瞬間、鉄の指が物陰へ容赦なく突き刺さった。「あ、が……っ⁉」
　首を巨大な万力のような力で掴み上げられる。
「お前が導き出した最善の策は、このゴミ溜めに這いつくばることかね？」
「期待外れだな」と呟く声は、いつかの実験と何も変わっていなかった。……価値の無いものを、見下す目。
　一方のヤーナビーは、新しいオモチャを見つけたように何度も鳴いていた。
「ヤーナビー、落ち着きなさい。今は……まだ食べてはいけない」
　――今は。その言葉の意味を、脳が処理することを拒否している。
「まっ……待ってください、ソーヤー博士！　僕はっ、僕は好きで貴方のことを改造したわけじゃないんです！」
「上に逆らったらどうなるかなんて、貴方も分かるでしょう⁉」
モニターの瞳が細まり、長いため息が吐き出された。

“...What a trivial report.”
The grip on my throat tightens. My breath hitches.
“...Urgh… w-wait, please wait!”
“If you're only using that brain to craft excuses, then you are no better than refuse. …Disposal, it is.”
A soulless sentence. His hand sinks deeper. In the encroaching darkness where the light of my life begins to flicker, I cast aside all shred of dignity.
“P-please… let me try again…!”
“...Oh?”
The pressure eases slightly. Sucking in desperate lungfuls of oxygen, I weave the words together.
“...One more… just one more chance to serve as your right hand… please let me start over…”
Silence. But even that is shattered instantly.
“—A right hand? I have no use for such things anymore.”
Along with that cruel declaration, a crushing force slams into my neck.
With a sickening crack, my vision explodes into white.

　わずかに力が緩められる。酸素を取り込みつつ、言葉を紡いだ。
「……もう一度……もう一度、右腕として、やり直させてください……」
　静寂。だが、それもすぐ破られる。

「――右腕など、もう私には必要ない」
　冷酷な宣告と共に、首筋へ強烈な圧力がかかる。
　ミシリ、と嫌な音がして、視界が白く爆ぜた。

…Within the iron fingers, White’s body went limp.
“...Ah, my apologies. Perhaps I misjudged my own strength?”
Sensors detect his life signs fading into a rapid decline. He is no longer a person—merely a mass of flesh in the process of shutting down.
“I must begin the dissection before the freshness fades… As for the leftovers… Yarnaby, why don’t I give them to you as a treat?”

改造されて間もないソーヤー博士の話。あのボディになって間もない頃とかいろんな痛みに苦しめられたんじゃなかろうか……。この間あげた「チェックメイト」の続きみたいな感じになってますが、これだけでも全然問題ないです。

The door closed. Left alone in the room, I let out a sigh.
……It seems everyone, without exception, had use for nothing but my intellect.
Leith. The way that incompetent fool looks at me—his eyes no longer reflect a human being. It is the gaze of a man appraising an inefficient piece of factory equipment, seeking to remodel it into a more convenient "book to be opened only when needed."
And then…… White. The man who was once my right hand.
The procedure he performed did not grant me "eternity." It gave me nothing but an endless, searing "laceration."

——My head is splitting.
It feels as though hands are thrust deep into the abyss of my consciousness, forcibly flipping through pages. That loathsome pain clings to me, refusing to let go.

"Get some proper rest," he says. How hypocritical.
He is merely preventing the hatred boiling within me from burning out my own circuits. All so he doesn't "soil the book," ensuring I can still provide the answers Playtime Co. demands.
……God, I hate him.
The fist I clenched in a fit of unbearable humiliation returned nothing but the inorganic sensation of metal grinding against metal.
Which will come first? Will this pain eventually break me? Or will my very "self" be erased by them before then?
