The music is SOOO good. There's not a lot of it, they reuse the same stuff in the actual episodes, but yeah 🤌

Your name also feels REALLY familiar, were you on my forum or Indie Zelda's forum? Or maybe I just know of you from similar Zelda circles. I was so active on other sites back then, like DA/LJ/Tumblr/Oekaki boards (my brain is such mush now, everything is mushed together like soup, I'm so sorry! lol)

I'm convinced that must have been where a ton of the early Zelda art creatives (fanartists/wallpaper/artistic gif makers hung out) I wish I could recall the artists name, I loved that piece, but man, having it as the goodbye image for my most beloved site really burned it into my brain so deeply

Okay, big thanks to whomever anaja(at)fanartist.com was who brought Zelda doujinshi to our attention in '00: web.archive.org/web/20000823... And Adele (saimain(at)hotmail.com) who got the himekawa manga to our attention in '01: web.archive.org/web/20010129...

I likely would not be doing what I've been doing without Andrea's site & she may be the root of why the Himekawa manga made it around the world. KitsunePixie (original fan translator who talked to Himekawa about localization; which I believe started the fan push) I think learned about it there too!

Also just throwing this out there to highlight C&S American fan influence: My first favorite, could-not-live-without, Zelda site, one of the earlier ones (2000), was Argentinian! It's how I learned about the Himekawa manga and Zelda doujinshi! web.archive.org/web/20011128...

That was exactly it! I get mad there aren't more Portugese localaizations: gaming is so huge in Brazil! And one of the the back-in-the-day Zelda fans I knew became a Spain-based Spanish localizer for Nintendo and I was shocked at how delayed the translations would be even past even the mid 00's!

Literally a Latina woman's site and Zelda discoveries is what I can thank for pushing me in the direction I've gone hard on for 25 years now.

Awesome!! One of my husband's best friends is Brazilian (did their college thesis together) & he learned English as a kid to be able to play a bootleg FF SNES game & later became a US game dev for a AAA company! Games bringing fans from around the world together FTW.

Back in the day (2002-2004ish) HoH's site visits were half-US & nearly all the rest was Mexico & Brazil. A massive number of people. Considering my own head-cannon, (I even had Spanish colonization ideas from AoL's town vibes,) & how many fans there are from C & S America, I would die if it happened

I want this SO BAD. A hill I will die on is that they need to hire the creator of Onyx Equinox @sofiaealexander.bsky.social as a major consultant because she did serious research (with actual historians and anthropologists) and is a massive Zelda fan. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onyx_Eq...

My head-cannon since the 80's is that that Zelda is inspired as much by Central & South American vibes as its European vibe. You can probably thank Mysterious Cities of Gold ('82) for why I feel that way. This is the most condensed clip of me "joking" it's simply LoZ's precursor:

This part on is the shortest way I can illustrate the insanely Zelda-coded labyrinths/bosses/puzzles/vibe without watching more of the show. ('82!) There are better individual sections for things but this rolls A LOT together in a short burst: youtu.be/bL5pNXwUcGc?... Also, lttp and wilds much?

Though, yeah, the kid from Spain (though, turns out, mixed ancestry from both continents) was technically introduced as the main "savior" character- Zia and Tau were his equals or betters and the show drove home to not center yourself and respect others. /OK that's been my daily tangent 😆

History of Hyrule, Zelda Archivist @historyofhyrule.com · 06/10/2026
IDK, it was just cool that a kids cartoon wanted to illustrate what massive, advanced, artistic, and hugely varied, the cultures of non-European regions were. It was slim pickings in the 80's that wasn't anything but "White cultures are the best!!1"

History of Hyrule, Zelda Archivist @historyofhyrule.com · 06/10/2026
Though MCoG was a fantasied take on cultures- it seemed to want to be thoughtful towards the indigenous peoples of C. & S. America & the Polynesian ancestry found there. (*tl;dr except the Olmacs.) Inca, Maya, "Hiva" Hawaiki, & others were represented as very individual & advanced cultures in it.

History of Hyrule, Zelda Archivist @historyofhyrule.com · 06/10/2026
To ramble for fun/anyone who stumbles on this: 80's anime was just utterly obsessed with Europe. Zelda obviously, throughout its whole lifespan- but when you look at some art for early Zelda games you see C & S American influences and TP & the Wilds really highlight the influence again.

Wow! This is so cool. OMG, yes! The Mysteries Cities of Gold was an '82 co production between Japanese and French companies but aired in Japan before anywhere else. So much of it is Zelda coded (like the look + the puzzle dungeons.) The studio also did Urusei Yatsura, so it was pretty well known.

The only exciting news is that my friend Louisa found a small piece of Katsuya Terada art, for OoT, that I hadn't seen before. (It's a variation of a piece that we have seen.) I'm trying to find the source, to get a good scan, before I post about it so the auction doesn't become too high.

(Thank you!❤️) I was actually really excited to see the new Ocarina of Time map. I think it's very cute! And I'm currently, slowly, working on putting together galleries for some of the smaller Zelda games.

Yeah, it's.. it's a lot. 72 & inching closer to to 96 is absolutely wild. The physical effects are really hard & not hallucinating but the waking dreams are whacky. "Eyes open: brain-movie pauses. Eyes close: brain-movie starts up where it left off." Lucid dreams can at least be controlled somewhat

I'm going to try it in the Hauge and then file a civil suit for some $$$. It doesn't seem to know its committing war crimes. Or it does and it's hoping it can off me before the trial starts.

I asked for an MRI to see if I had a pituitary tumor pressing on my sleep switch & they were like "see no reason for that." I told them I had Addison's and they were like "that's primary (adrenals), not secondary (pituitary,) so you don't have one." "And I was like:" and then they said ^ that. 🤷‍♀️

Side note: Don't bother going to the ER for insomnia in the US. They all tell you to for liability reasons but the doctors was like "ERs don't diagnose it and don't know what to do about it." Reddit said as much but I didn't feel like I had other options. I wish I hadn't gone. Just wore me out more

A note on my absence: I was hit by really severe acute insomnia. I've gone multiple 84ish hour periods with no sleep, lucky if I get 3hrs a night in-between. Seems like underlaying medical but I've a few conditions that make it hard to pin point. More specialists coming up but the process is slow

The problem is likely English. It's such a mish-mash mess of inconsistent pronunciations that people default to how they'd usually interpret sound pairings I actually didn't know that Ocarinas are Italian in origin before your post though so I'm glad to learn I've been saying it the right way

History of Hyrule, Zelda Archivist @historyofhyrule.com · 29/09/2026
I joked with Max because I also always pronounced it Oh too. But it's not like I knew- when the game came out I didn't know anyone who know the correct pronunciation. So when I was on a podcast, and the hosts said Ah, I got really self conscious and just replicated them 😆 Thank you for posting this

This interview is beyond special because it's someone with a deep knowledge of the series, a life long game designer who understand game development, asking the questions. So you're getting one of the best pictures ever of how development actually functioned between Japan and the US for OoT

OMG and with art by Rockin' Jelly Bean?!? Even though I've never seen him work in this style before I instantly looked for a signature to see if it was him. (I still hate myself for not buying some of his prints years ago. Just very specific ones that I really liked.)

I also didn't know. But I also kind of live in a very happy corner of fandom that we've all carved out) I'm wondering if it's a thing on reddit communities or something. I'll browse reddit but never any gaming stuff on there.

One of my oldest friends/Zelda friends does Star Wars fan comics and from what I gather it's just hard because of how toxic so many people are that want to claim that series. But I know they have their community pockets where things are friendly and fine thankfully

And yeah, even not knowing much it's like: anything with Paul's stink on it is guaranteed toxic in the making. It's so sad he wrecked what should have been a fun hobby for people to enjoy. I'm really happy when I see scalpers and their ilk crash.

It's funny because he really wanted to play Pokopia, but I started playing before him while he finished something else up, and as he watched me play he was like "well this isn't really what I'm into when it comes to Pokemon" but it's now my favorite Nintendo game outside of the Zelda series. 😆

Ah, gotcha! Yeah, they're just our chill-out series But he's so much of a fan he's pretty sure he has gen 2 Pokémon that he was able to export through Colosseum (but he can't remember how he did it since it's been exactly *that long ago*) I wish he did because I can't find it on the internet

I also don't play games very much any more. Not that I haven't logged hundreds of hours in BotW etc but my big excitements at this point are the real-life deep dive hunting for rare stuff and people enjoying the fandoms in various creative ways.

My first addictions were Centipede & Qbert at the skating rink But truly it was Odell Lake When we got a home console, my dad was hooked on Mario & I liked watching him play it but I wasn't into it. Then Zelda 1 hit: Boom. (King's Quest 4, when I could access it, intrigued me)
