Very much this. One of the most fun things about having OCs is talking with people about them. Its like a form of collaborative world building because it forces the creator to think about them in ways they might not have anticipated.

This is one of my absolute favorite tool for face lighting! You drag the head to the angle you want and then press play or drag the bottom slide til the light is where you want it. williamnguyen.artstation.com/projects/6a0...

(Since people are reposting their popular tweets here…) From my experience of drawing sound effects by hand, I realised that you can easily make font-based sound effects more exciting as well—by exercising intentionality and control. Here's some examples.

Acting is reacting! Here's what that means when I storyboard: 1. New information comes in, 2. Brain understands the information, 3. THEN the emotions hit. Absorb, Understand, then React. The pacing of each step is the secret sauce to unique performance!

With all of us coming here to Bluesky, we are all essentially hitting a big reset button. Twitter promoted a lot of toxic unhealthy traits in the pursuit for clout thanks to its awful algorithm. Here, those toxic fucks don't have an algorithm to push their bullshit. This is a huge chance for us.

An info-board summarising the difference between Twitter/X and Bluesky, and the potential advantages that come with the latter.

Hey comics friends. We all know Tess Fowler. We all love Tess Fowler. She’s in a *horrific* financial situation rn and needs our help! Since bsky doesn’t do video yet, I’m posting screenshots of her vid and her call to action here, on her behalf. Please donate and/or share if you can 💕

From Tess Fowler’s IG account:

Today, just as I packaged the last order for the shop, we received a call that is potentially devastating.

Everything has been going pretty great. Chris and I are doing well. We have been working and in really great head spaces. We found out we both have autism and learning more about that has left us with a lot of peace. Chris was back to work, and I was finishing up art lists.

Then, earlier this month, we found out that Covid support we applied for, while I was down with cancer and surgeries, and unable to work was, in fact, not approved, and we had only a matter of weeks to pay back rent, or be evicted. Back rent that totals quite a lot of money. A LOT a lot.

We have been on top of all of our paperwork, and even with the gofundme my friend ran for us, between cancer and surgeries, and now this back rent, it’s just not enough.

We were granted a deal by the owner to pay it back monthly, so long as there’s a down payment; that deadline is Sept 28th

(Cont.) so far so good! We almost had it covered. We were doing OK! Crisis averted. Or so we thought. Then today’s phone call: the owner, who made the deal with us, apparently did so without their lawyers approvals. We were told today the deal was suddenly off the table, and there was no explanation. So the weeks that we could’ve spent looking for and securing a new apartment are gone. In five days, the deadline is up for the eviction. Our rent has been returned. Even though we applied for the new back rent help program per the buildings request, that doesn’t even begin to be considered until October. And the waitlist for that is long.

So the situation now is dire: unless we can come up with $20,000 by at least Wednesday the 27th, or roughly $7000 to get us into a new apartment by the 27th, we will be homeless.

We love you so much and we hate to do this to you, but I will have to pack up the whole studio and won’t be able to work on Commissions until we figure out where we’ll land.

Call to action screenshot from Tess Fowler’s IG account:

PS: for those offering help, my PayPal is TESSFOWLER7@gmail.com

Thank you and I will keep you posted.

Also, skip Inktober and try one of the many other options. The guy who runs it is a plagiarist clown and has made inktober into a brand that uses your work to funnel $ right into his pockets.

Little tip for anyone who’s gonna do one of those art challenges next month, start sketching/planning now. No such thing as cheating when it comes to these things and the burnout lots of people get in return is not worth it. It’s meant to be fun, no need to make it a stress inducing gauntlet.

Yaay, PostyBirb supports BlueSky now! Made a little PostyBirb tutorial for any folks who feel they are in TOO MANY PLACES and want a neat scheduling program! I've been using it for several months so I'm used to it, but the UI can be confusing! You can download PostyBirb here: www.postybirb.com

Screenshot of the main PostyBirb desktop with four arrows indicating the main areas I use:
Accounts: Go here to connect all your accounts (these are the ones I have connected)
Submissions > File: Use this when you want to post a picture
Submissions > Notification: Use this when you want a plaintext post
Templates > Tag Groups: Make a thing that has the groups of tags you like to use ("Sombulus, webcomics, spiderforest" might be an update group, for example)

View of PostyBirb's File Submissions screen. Arrow indicate two areas:
Top area: Click one of these things to get your pictures ready for a post to one or more platforms
Bottom Area: Stuff that you have prepared but not posted yet will sit in a list down here

Screenshot of Postybirb's File Submisson screen with arrows indicating different areas with Delphina's commentary:

Additional files: Sometimes I do this but you don't have a lot of control over how it formats multiple pictures, so be careful here
Schedule: Set a date it goes live (prescheduling my beloved <3)
Title: This will automatically default to your file name, might want to change it
Rating: Don't skip this! It won't post until you give it a rating!
Tags: These tags will get tossed into the "tag" field of the platform if it has one
Description: Text of your post (you can add links or formatting, but they might get changed or nuked depending on your platform's support. Experiment!)
Websites: When you click here, anything you've successfully hooked up in the Accounts tab will appear!
Every website will have a panel where you can tailor your content to the platform if you choose. You don't HAVE to touch them (unless there's a red error indicator)

Screenshots of PostyBirb's Scheduled Submissions and Submissions Logs screens with Delphina's commentary:
Scheduled: File Submissions scheduled tab my beloved <3
Pencil icon: Change the time
Post now: Impatience button
Edit: Wait I wanna say something else
Unschedule: Go back to Submissions and think about what you've done
Calendar: Month view of what's coming up!
Logs: All the posts you've already made!
Failed: Sometimes they fail if you get logged out somewhere
Recreate Submission: If you're making nearly identical posts week after week to the same places with the same settings (like webcomic announcements), click this, go back to Submissions, edit the bits that need to change, and schedule again!)

gesture drawing helped me a lot. also drawing on paper. gesture drawing is all about capturing the energy of a pose and all its key data, and drawing on paper enforces a limit on how much detail you can show at once which forces you to care about the small things like fluidity, shape language, etc

Tiny tip if you want to share what you posted here on discord. When you copy and paste the html of the post, change "bsky" to "psky" and Discord will show an actual embedded preview of your post on there. Users will still need a blue sky account to go to the post but it helps show your work around.
