Thanks so much for coming to Mr Surprise Matsuri yesterday! I did run out of the keycaps pretty fast. This was provided by Mr Surprise as a bonus, so maybe I will make some of my own eventually.

I know it’s bad for your iPhone battery to get to 0%, but every time it happens, I at least feel good knowing that any nso/cytrox/paragon/<insert lame try hard name here> semi-tethered jailbreak has to be fired again 🍹 cheerio sellouts and fascists. i’m kidding (only about the first part though).

From the same dev: “it’s also that I cannot see management being concerned solving the information visibility that keeps slowing us down. We’re rolling out AI coding tools for devs but no one thinks about the org silos that slow us down 10x more than any coding use case.”

ChatControl wants to scan all your private messages
The EU is pushing legislation that would scan all our private messages, even in encrypted apps.

www.privacyguides.org/articles/202... honestly a mid meme template, but at least it communicates. ChatControl is a see-through and short-sighted proposal.

> Use-of-force experts and former Immigration and Customs Enforcement insiders say the tactic was rarely used during previous administrations. They say there is no known policy change greenlighting agents’ smashing of windows. Rather, it’s a part of a broader shattering of norms.

Read this from your blog, and just went to search for your socials to reply how much I resonate with this. Cars are big offenders. Some cars also do not allow muting a seat belt warning, crazy “security” feature to have it yell at me the entire ride because a seat sensor notices pressure somewhere.

Haha yes! Subjectively this totally happens. I think everyone would agree that if you’re hanging from a cliff and someone pulls you up last moment, that it was a close call!

Serge @hiserge.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
Haha, I often thought about those ‘almost’ scenarios. My guess is that ultimately, an objective and sensical quantitive ranking of such scenarios cannot be given, unless you make a lot of extra model assumptions-also not by an omniscient creature- because what does it mean to ‘almost’ get something?

Yes, and I think most people agree that media got more accessible over time.
000
Serge @hiserge.bsky.social · 24/06/2025
Conversely, when we talk about eras, we’re referring to periods of time. As time progresses, the likelihood that the current era is the best of all time decreases (unless you believe that we are somehow consistently producing better musicians over time, which I personally don’t believe to be true).

Serge @hiserge.bsky.social · 24/06/2025
I consider the “golden era” to be when the best work was produced, and I don’t believe this is happening now. Most revolutionary players, producers, and composers are dead, and we are lucky to still have access to their recovered works. I would agree if you describe this as the accessibility era.

Serge @hiserge.bsky.social · 22/06/2025
Yes! And another reason of the & is to differentiate between redirecting to a normal file. With `… 2>1`, you’d create a new file named 1. In Linux you could- I don’t know why you would though- also use the procfs instead (`… 2>/proc/self/fd/1`). So then you do redirect to a (pseudo)file; stdout.
