iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

I’m so happy to be part of this book. Truly a labour of love from editors Andrew and Zoe - they gave me 4 pages for a story about how staggeringly awkward I was in uni, THEN let me go wild on the cover. Sign up for updates, links in my bio. Treats for backers include a neon riso print of my cover!

Oh hi! That’s nice of you to say! Where did you find it?

Apparently I am a sucker for discourse… And yes, exactly.

I do not have time to engage in discourse. I do not have time to engage in discourse. I do not have … oh hell... #lateinlifecartoonist #actuallyautistic #godhelpusall

I just remembered! There was one on Domestika called “experimental watercolour techniques” that I really enjoyed.

I did once invest a bit more money (I think about a hundred bucks) and do a BBC masterclass with Julia Donaldson about writing children’s literature. The content and quality is much higher in that scenario, if there’s something particular you want to take to the next level.

I just looked and most of the cheaper ones I did aren’t still there - I jumped around various skillshare platforms, mostly picking up the basics on different physical media (watercolour, pen and ink)

What a cutie! I hear you on the motivation issue. Sometimes it helps me to participate in something like inktober, something with random prompts. Or sometimes I do random online classes. Just to externalize the motivation and accountability. But also there’s nothing wrong with the way you work!

I’m always so touched when someone remembers that! Thank so much.

*coffee commercial voice back* Fun fact! In blind taste tests, 100% of respondents could not identify the difference between Arcane’s toxic Yuri blend and that of Agatha All Along.

Oh crap, you’re right. In the interest of accuracy, it wasn’t the entire coven. I mentally edited Billy.

I think it was the fifteen hour sleep, in this case, but the travel has also been fun!

I travelled to England this weekend to attend Thought Bubble UK and ended up making a REAL weird comic… #thoughtbubblefestival #lateinlifecartoonist #comics

Fair. Plus there would need be at least six of them to throw out that guy’s backpack, in consideration of officer safety.

Doom Patrol really decided that a natural end for Jane’s arc was to go be a painter in space and get a cat with Casey and I for one have zero notes. #doompatrol #fanart #kaleidoscope #spacecase #crazyjane

Two women, characters from the show Doom Patrol, stand face to face in front of a round porthole showing then stars, cuddling a kitten between them.

Yeah, pretty much same. I’ve been super into things but never really participated in community. It was 1) spending all night waiting for missy Good fics to load on dialup, 2) a million years pass 3) I’m learning hashtags on Twitter.

You’re all welcome! (Also thank you very much 💜)

I’ve been summoned! Did someone mention Xena?! My original fandom experience was surfing the Xena geocities webring and hanging out on “passion and perfection” 😆

(2/2) …‪with the intention‬ and hope something good comes from the conversation. I still hope that people consider the broader point about valuing creative labour. But I wanted to contextualize my original comments.‬

Amy Noseworthy, Hired Hand Studio @hiredhandstudio.bsky.social · 03/10/2023

‪(1/2) Hey all, added context: the organizers have graciously engaged in conversation and clarified their intention. This isn’t the same as companies using contests to avoid paying for work, granted, despite the resemblance. I still think the execution isn’t exactly in line… +

I do my best… this is one of those rare instances where autistic obliviousness to tone is an asset. I often just don’t notice I should be offended 😆

130

Amy Noseworthy, Hired Hand Studio @hiredhandstudio.bsky.social · 03/10/2023

Thanks, friend. I hope I can take the conversation in a productive direction eventually…

Amy Noseworthy, Hired Hand Studio @hiredhandstudio.bsky.social · 03/10/2023

Yeah… I didn’t mean to pick on them, I know their intentions were good, just to have fun and include people. I should have maybe thought twice about trying to have a nuanced discussion on Twitter.

210

Amy Noseworthy, Hired Hand Studio @hiredhandstudio.bsky.social · 03/10/2023

They cancelled the competition, which was absolutely not my hope or intention. I was just asking for a consideration of the value of creative labour, honest.

Amy Noseworthy, Hired Hand Studio @hiredhandstudio.bsky.social · 03/10/2023

Friends, I’m not here to tell anyone what to do with their art, but a for-profit-operation that charges for tickets really should be paying artists. The opportunity to give your work away “for exposure” isn’t a prize, kids. It’s taking advantage. #WarriorNun #WarriorNunSaved

This is a cool idea! Are the artists getting paid if chosen?

With all of us coming here to Bluesky, we are all essentially hitting a big reset button. Twitter promoted a lot of toxic unhealthy traits in the pursuit for clout thanks to its awful algorithm. Here, those toxic fucks don't have an algorithm to push their bullshit. This is a huge chance for us.

An info-board summarising the difference between Twitter/X and Bluesky, and the potential advantages that come with the latter.

Thank you! I’ll poke around… I just need a “quip”, it’s very open ended but the vibe is funny, lighthearted… I just personally want to bring in a queer and/or BIPOC source.
