Boston Legacy continued…Karich at the 6 with more defined spacing in front of her and Reale-Elgin-Davis-BSG as the back 4. You’d be combining your most promising young players 7 25 or under and 3 of the best rated by g+ (Aïssata, Davis, BSG). Also I think Elgin and Deja’s strengths are complimentary

Right after Boston Legacy acquired Reale, they put up something like 6.5 xG in the first two games starting Aïssata and Guti up top together…and we haven’t seen it since? Feels like you can slot Schupansky over on the right where Prince was with Caño in the middle and Barb or Sammy on the left.

There’s valid criticism for Filipa Patão. Flipping between a back 3 and 4. Emphasizing a press with a shallow/inexperienced roster without a ton of continuity. There’s still unfamiliarity in the attacking patterns. attributing the lack of recent success to aggressive play is shortsighted 4/n

If anything I’d argue the recent play is their aggressive start to the season catching up to them. Quite a few Boston Legacy players have reached/nearing first team career minutes highs (Prince, BSG, Caño), Karich had played 3k minutes in 13 months. The pressing looks ineffective and disjointed. 3/n

But since the break/Reale acquisition Boston is 10.1 fouls/game, 11 yellows, 1 red. The first 2 would put them in the middle of the pack over a full season. Further in their 4 game winless streak, Boston Legacy are 8.5 fouls and 2 yellows. That would be next to last and last in both categories (2/n)

There’s been some lazy writing recently about the Boston Legacy and their aggressive play. It always cites their league leading fouls per game and yellow/red card totals but it misses nuance that wound make for a more informative analysis. Yes Boston is leading the league in those categories (1/n)
