That actually doesn't bother me. What gets me, is that 2,000 years on, we still know the names of people like Caligula, Nero, and Herod. Trump will be the same - remembered for being awful. Meanwhile, all the folk who did good will fade in memory simply because their stories aren't so outrageous.

My favourite ever "immigrant" conversation was pre-Brexit. An ex-pat English couple ran the Spanish holiday home we rented. After telling us how fantastic the free Spanish healthcare system was, they started bitching about how awful it was to have immigrants in the UK!

Meadows used to be a thing decades ago, but you don't see them here now. So the land around the substation was the thing closest to a meadow. Except maybe for the trains rattling past. It was "industrial", but gorgeous. And a gorgeous girl from the office would come down with me.

When they interviewed me for the role, I was stoned. When they offered me the job, I was stoned. So when I took the job... At lunchtimes, I'd leave the office and head down to the substation which was on the corner of the estate. The grass grew high in the summer, mixed with wild flowers.

The substation is gone - now it's weeds and trees growing over the rubble - mother nature reclaiming what was always hers. A couple of decades back I had a temp contract at a bank (now a derelict building) a short way up the road.
