I now call for the remaining California National Guard members to be defederalized. There are natural disasters across the State and nation, where their skills and service are urgently needed. That is where they belong.

The withdrawal of the 700 active-duty Marines from Los Angeles County is long overdue. There is no place for a militarized presence in our communities—especially when residents are peacefully demonstrating and exercising their constitutional rights.

Our immigrant communities are afraid to go to their doctor's appointments, pick up medications, and go to the grocery store. This is unacceptable.

Our families, youth, and neighbors have experienced terror, sadness, and disruption at the hands of the Trump administration. In the face of that, we must continue to show respect for our communities, even when this administration does not.

We are strong and resilient, but no one should have to live under the constant threat and of militarized raids, racial profiling, and family separation. Los Angeles County will not stand by. I will not stand by. As @cagovernornewsom.bsky.social said, we cannot be complicit.

Federal agents are targeting people based on their skin color and the type of work they do. Day laborers, car wash workers, street vendors, and other essential workers, many of whom helped carry us through the COVID-19 pandemic, are being wrongfully profiled and even unlawfully detained.

It is also horrifying that ICE targeted Skid Row to intimidate some of our most vulnerable residents. Trump said he would go after criminals, not innocent hardworking people contributing to our economy and supporting their families.
