We are breathing a sigh of relief today because 988’s Press 3 option has been restored. It is a lifeline for LGBTQ young people in the darkest chapter of their lives, and it should never have been cut in the first place. spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/watertow...

LGBTQ+ option on 988 lifeline reinstated
The “press 3” option allows LGBTQ+ youth to speak to someone who is trained for their specific needs during a mental health crisis.

Last night’s medevac crash off the coast of Catalina is a terrible tragedy. The people who were on board dedicated their careers to saving lives. They are heroes. I am grateful to our Sheriff’s and Fire Depts, Coast Guard, LA Port Police, and Avalon for their quick and coordinated response.

LA County’s relationship with the great City of Downey is unique because so many of our institutions have their home here. Today I’m joining leaders, friends, and community members for Mayor Claudia Frometa’s final State of the City.

We have a long way to go to fix our juvenile system, but establishing the right of these youth to hug their loved ones is a small way to bring in some humanity. Now we must make sure this law is implemented at our juvenile facilities & implemented right. www.thedowneypatriot.com/articles/new...

Today—on the International Day of Sign Languages, of all days—I happened to learn some sign language on my bus ride. Anna is deaf, and her husband Enrique helped translate for us. They taught me how to sign “friend” & “I love you.” These two made my day a little bit brighter ❤️
