It’s Fire Prevention Week! This year’s theme ‘Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower’ highlights simple habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires. From phones and laptops to e-bikes and power tools, lithium-ion batteries are part of everyday life.

Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency (HRFE) and Halifax Water (HW) were on scene in the area of Claudia Crescent, Lucy Court and Flora Court in Middle Sackville last night.   HRFE and HW investigated reports of an unusual odour within the sewer system in the area. Details in link below.

This weekend members of the IAFF Local 268 executive, the HRFE leadership team, the Union Fire Club Pipes and Drums, and Honour Guard attended the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Memorial. We paid respects to the fallen, including HRFE DC Bryson Wilson and Firefighter Engineer Paul Dober.

In the years that followed, many more first responders and recovery workers have died from illnesses linked to their work at Ground Zero. Their sacrifices remind us that the cost of service is not always paid on the day of the incident.

Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives during the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard Flight 93. Among them were 343 firefighters who entered the World Trade Center to save others. In total, 403 firefighters, police officers, and paramedics were killed.

Volunteer & Career Firefighters are currently on scene in Beaver Bank responding to a reported structure fire. Seven apparatus have been deployed. A primary search of the building has been completed, and crews are now checking for fire extension.

Today, recruit fitness testing was conducted with our Peer Fitness Trainers (in blue) to establish baseline physical fitness levels for all participants. The results of these assessments will be used to monitor progress and guide physical conditioning efforts throughout the recruit training program.
