Autism is better known and diagnosed than ever before, leading to misconceptions that cases are skyrocketing.

I agree. @elliechowns.bsky.social who stood against him last year would be my choice for leader, but some in the Greens have a downer on her because she's not 110% behind every trans right issue. FWIW I just cancelled my membership of the Green Party

Reminds me of exchange with my MP in 2021 about Environment Bill and debate about imposing duties on water companies, stop discharge of untreated sewage etc. MP asserted it'd cost every UK household £5k to be rectified so only minimal changes possible. Figures quoted were of course bollocks

Einstein was surely a renowned *humanitarian* rather than humanist. He fought for social justice, freedom, peace and against all injustice, racism. Didn't believe in (cruel) Abrahamic god or the afterlife but considered himself "a deeply religious man", passionate about being a Jew and Jewish ideals

Interesting. An even stronger case for Christianity being foundational to Western civilisation was eloquently made by Christopher Dawson, 70-80 yrs before Holland. Curiously, Dawson isn't cited in Dominion's 400+ references...

Indeed, here's an old one of mine at UK price of 45p! Donaldson's message about "what matters...is not growth, but growth of what, for whom and at what cost; not full employment, but the nature of work; not just more wealth, but its equitable distribution" seems still relevant as ever...

Indeed. Latest report from @britishfuture.bsky.social sets out the widely mixed views of the "tribes". As I've said before, probably take a generation before UK actually rejoins by which time of course EU will be a different beast anyway... www.britishfuture.org/publication/...

Olah finds “things that are mysterious, even unsettling…evidence of introspection" but I'd take that with big pinch of salt. As per Iain McGilchrist, AI is self-referring system, only repeats what it knows, hence prone to delusions. AI can never really "understand", have leap of insight or be moral

Clarke is distorting what Burnham said. Burnham said he wanted to reverse the "wrong path" since Thatcher but he didn't say let's go back to 1970s, which are remembered for Callaghan's shitty 3-day week, high inflation, unemployment etc. But I got to see Bob Marley so there were good times too...

Great that Burnham is opening up discussion about EU. Cautious "softly-softly" strategy sounds good too. But I can't help recalling that once upon time (*2013*) the toxic dickhead Johnson advised about the need "to wrap that cold towel round our heads" when considering Leave/Remain options... <sigh>

That thug sabotaging rescue efforts, racist riots, flags on lampposts, pink ladies wanting to burn down hotels, doxxing charity workers, ICE-style deportation plans, threats to scrap the Equality Act and leave the ECHR… “legitimate concerns” No. A tornado of hate and prejudice set off by Farage.

Perhaps read some Iain McGilchrist? As he put it, AI is self-referring system, only repeats what it knows (hence prone to delusions) firmly stuck in left-hemisphere processing. Consequently AI can never produce leaps of insight, "understanding" etc characteristic of human (right-hemisphere) thinking

There’ve been failure narratives since Suez. But after 2012 euphoria, UKIP triumphed in 2014 Euro elections. How on earth was that possible? Answer: Cameron. Unable to see off Farage (who he’d labelled a fruitcake), failed at Referendum, then exits stage to let in toxic buffoon Johnson...
