Private Walter Taylor lies as the lone known Canadian in Messines Ridge British Cemetery. I found his grave during a unplanned visit and here is his story, one that takes in a very dark part of Canadian history. heathermcbriartyauthor.ca/blog/#darlin...

How about the multitude of US wildfires? Are you doing anything about those? Oh wait, a Canadian pilot has already died trying to help you. Go fuck yourself!

Do you have the slightest clue how fucking big and uninhabited Canada is?!?

Wildfires devastating Canada. Stop painting this as the fault of Canada, and not a natural disaster affecting the continent.

I've been spending all day looking into my guys. The SWW guys: one was badly burned and smashed up after crashing his plane during training at age 18; one had a massive sinus infection turned brain abcess; one was murdered by a neighbour; one died from unnamed head trauma. It's rather upsetting

I've wanted to since my first trip to Belgium. I was really excited when I saw them start in NS last year. They just opened it to NB this year. I just wish there was a good way to research the SWW guys I have. One of them was only 18. Gutting!!

Google CWGC Canada volunteers, and you'll be directed to their site to apply. Had to do some online training, watch a couple of videos then a Zoom call thing that was two hours (offer it every few weeks) and boom, I was good to go! They assign graveyards/headstones to monitor.

I'm thinking of upgrading my book cover. Right, left, or should I do a more radical change? This is a novel about a couple separated by the First World War.

Today is National Indigenous Veterans Day. This day honours the contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Metis who served in the Canadian Armed Forces. They fought for Canada despite being denied rights by the country. This is the story of some of those veterans. 🧵 1/12

Black-and-white group portrait photo of 19 men in three rows against a draped backdrop. Back row: 9 men in military uniforms with peaked caps. Middle row: 5 men in traditional Indigenous attire with feathered headdresses and blankets, plus one man in a suit at center. Front row: 5 seated men in suits and traditional clothing, some with necklaces; three hats on the floor in front.

Landing in France in 2023, they took my picture at customs, and on the way out, did it again. I think you're going to see a lot of countries do this.

Sitting here with Tim Cook's book open on my lap when I find out that he is gone. When I met him he said he'd read my book and signed his to me from one historian to another, he a highly prolific, brilliant, and decorated PhD in military history, me a rank amateur. RIP, Tim you were so kind!🥺

Oh yes, retirement, but that's the wrong word for it. No ambling off into the sunset or sitting in a rocker. It's a brand new chance to do new stuff!

Woke up this morning as an unemployed person for the first time in 39 years. I feel like a kid again, just out of high school with a world of possibilities ahead of me! What do I want to be when I grow up? What new thing can I do today? It's a renewal, a reinvention, not retirement.
