Thats the tricky part, but the secret sauce is starting with a thesis, as if you were writing a paper for a school A good thesis gives you something to say, and a reason for saying it. And that becomes the legs for your story to walk with. Then comes your broader themes and characters to enact them

half the cast is entirely wasted, most of the scenes are merely lore dumps and situation explainers, the pacing is atrocious leading to narrative whiplash and leaves no room for characters to actually breathe, the 'adventure' in disc 1 is carried by artificial "i guess we're going here"s it sucks!

the biggest unsalvageable problem xenogears has is the plot is entirely un-edited. it desperately needed revision and no one had the guts to tell takahashi his drafts stank of rambling and pointless scenes. nothing matters! the next biggest problem is fei being as compelling as soggy toilet paper

not even a total rewrite could salvage xenogears, but a remake would make its problems clear as day. the entire game's a mess, not just disc 2. the only thing that can save xenogears is a xenoSAGA remake where they give episode 2 more scenes to fill in the gaps and turn episode 1 into a film lmao
