not even a total rewrite could salvage xenogears, but a remake would make its problems clear as day. the entire game's a mess, not just disc 2. the only thing that can save xenogears is a xenoSAGA remake where they give episode 2 more scenes to fill in the gaps and turn episode 1 into a film lmao

When xenogears decides to slow down and have its main characters actually talk to each other the game is actually only kinda okay and not turbo bad. So it really does go to show how being too attached to epic sounding ideas distracts you from actually reaching storytelling fundamentals

Half the reason im so venty during my xenogears playthrough is how long i spent content pretending i played it Confronting that shame of being a poser is inherently emotionally charged but combine that with the realization that such a game never deserved such pretension feels even more demeaning

Like the first episode of fma:brotherhood comes across as insecure and unstructured with its exposition and feels like a panicked de-revision to squeeze in all the details they thought audiences needed for later
