Silco is such an interesting paradoxical character. The dissonance between "everyone abandons us" and "I still believe in loyalty." Simultaneously believing nobody can be trusted, and yet trust is all he has to hold onto.

Pen and watercolor

Cowboys again. This time one of our boys has lost his boots. Standing in a field of long grass the cowboy points towards the ground and shouts back to his colleague, “Lil bone people got muh boots.” This makes no sense to the other cowboy who sits atop his horse away from the action. He responds, “Lil wut?” Sure enough in the foreground we see a squad of little bone people scampering through the grass with the stolen cowboy boots. They’re thrilled. How the bone people got the boots off the cowboy is unclear.

Artist’s note: I tend to draw drawings from the same perspective (straight on) most of the time. This idea came about when I was goofin around trying to draw a character from a lower angle. I like that the story unfolds with the foreground, mid-ground, and background all working together. There’s a draft of this one included in the Spooky Pants book. Coming out next week!

I like it so far. The protagonist is very much a teenager. I really only decided to check it out because I saw some video on YT about people hand wringing about "she seduces her teacher" like the whole point isn't that she is a child and he is an adult.

I've never felt the need to slow down an audiobook before but I just changed the reading speed to 0.7 on Half His Age so it doesn't feel like we are speeding through the text and giving the story room to breathe.

I guess I should actual work on this story... Silco agreed that it would be nice to get away, as they so rarely had the opportunity, but when he thought about doing so, a hulking, coughing, half-decrepit recreational vehicle was not part of the picture.

Also a great comment on the video pointed out that most peasants had a single set of woolen outer clothes and their under clothes were linen/hemp, so probably Zaunite clothing would rely on lesser grass fibre.
