the gamecube came out in japan 25 years ago 20 years after that, @vanniall.com commissioned a pixel art animation set to the console's startup jingle used to be synced around the second drop, but she preferred it synced around the first drop, which is why the animation is so (ha ha) front-loaded

i still ain't paying $500 for this game, but i appreciate how this mirrors Toni Flickclub's redesign, down to the angle and size of her horns.

Toni Aubergine, as she appears in FLICK CLUB (2020)

sketch of Toni Aubergine from a couple years ago, in which she is much more disheveled (complimentary)

the uniform was inspired by the "cartoon characters in static plaid" aesthetic, but in hindsight, it's much less funny when the character isn't animated. a flat pattern on a static pose just gives you a flat pose. this design shit is a lot harder when you have to account for perspective.

heptagon 🔞 @heptagon.bsky.social · 15/04/2026

the checkerboard pattern on the FLICK CLUB uniform is the bane of my existence - it has driven me to extremes such as finally learning CSP's liquify tool

drawing of my FLICK CLUB OCs (clockwise: Luke, Mimi, Skye, Toni, Zeta, Elin, and June) in the titular uniforms. i used the liquify tool to try and add some depth to the checkerboard pattern, but it's still a work in progress.

if i ever do a FLICK CLUB followup, i want it to go into detail about how each monster's power work (they all have powers, but only Skye and June show theirs in-game... some others are hinted at via the unlockable FLICK INSTINCTs)

Mimi can alter the size of their horns by alchemically extracting/releasing minerals from/into the air. those aren't freckles; those are collections of copper dust, and that's why they're placed differently in every drawing.

in this redesign, OnlyFauns model Mimi found their hat from the FLICK CLUB alpha build

sketches of my faun OC, Mimi, holding chalices, wearing witch hats, and crossing their arms sternly. the fur is shaved from the hips in a way that's giving KOF character pants.

in the bottom right corner, there's a reference drawing from 6 years ago, back when she had a witch hat

exactly - my art professor used to say that a drawing was only complete when you finish it, which i used to interpret as "pour as much time into this piece as you need", but it also means "you can stop whenever, and that's also a complete drawing"

i was thinking about this until 2 last night - my priorities as an artist have shifted in the last few years, and while that means i can't polish a drawing the way i used to, at least perspective is no longer my dump stat!

since i didn't wind up posting much this year, here's a lineup of preliminary sketches from the one thing i drew here! if i'm going to draw more FLICK CLUB stuff in 2026, i need to figure out a better way to shorthand the checkerboard pattern (or modify it)

sketches of the FLICK CLUB cast, all dressed in uniform. they have unique footwear that didn't make it into the final drawing; my favorite is the platform shoes June stores extra slime in, in case she needs to transform into a larger opponent.

the FLICK CLUB anniversary art was a grim reminder that i need to get way better at perspective to have any chance of drawing checkered material in 3-dimensional space. not sure what i was thinking with those uniforms! in the meantime, blank and flat pattern alts

drawing of the FLICK CLUB cast in a plain white version of the usual FLICK CLUB uniform (halter top + stockings attached by a couple of straps)

another alt of that FLICK CLUB drawing, but with a flat checkerboard pattern for the uniforms.

i used to love that sort of "they're not even trying" energy whenever a cartoon character wore plaid, but it sabotages any three-dimensionality my art has. i draw differently than i did years ago, and maybe i need to alter the uniforms to reflect that...
