A significant crowd is outside the Kennedy Center for a “Hands Off the Arts” protest, as the nation’s memorial to former President John F. Kennedy remains closed. Just today, another dozen Kennedy Center employees were laid off.

Empty pint of “Pure Monongahela Rye #Whiskey made by Henry Large, Jr. #Pittsburgh , PA” found during remodeling of our typical Squirrel Hill house – tossed between the brickwork and the framing when the house was built in 1917. www.pre-pro.com/midacore/vie...

One of the paintings in a small meditation chapel in the East Liberty Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh. #MrRogers

A small, framed painting of Fred Rogers in one of his famous sweaters, smiling at the viewer. There is a golden halo around his head. The paining is on the steps of a small altar beside candles and glass blocks.

Say, @coolbikeart1.bsky.social‬, do you like abstract examples? I took this photo by accident while grabbing my phone after parking my bike.

Closeup of gray paving stoves with shadows cast by a bicycle.

All of Rosso’s paintings show a bit of pluck.

"Desire & Selfishness Cause Mediocrity!" - one of several signs posted at the entrance to a smoke and news shop in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh.

A store window and entrance with printed signs for vapes, the lottery, security system warnings, etc. and a handwritten sign in the center, with "Desire & Selfishness Cause Mediocrity!" in red ink and capital letters.

A "harrowing" machine. In every sense of the word.

Close up of a farm implement meant to be pulled by a tractor. It has a green frame with many black arms ending in various shapes of blades. The arms are presently in an upright, slightly threatening position but when in operation they would be directed down into the soil to break up clods, disturb weeds, etc. after plowing. The machine is called a "harrow", and it's use "harrowing."

I worked at Rex Hardware (see below) for 2 or 3 yrs in the mid-1970s. Obtained skills: glazing, carpentry, lock installation, sharpening. Liked helping people find stuff needed to do things themselves. Finally decided I wanted to help folks sharpen their wits too, so switched to being a librarian.
