Tried the new Safari "Notify Me" thing to monitor for price drops on some scales I wanted. Very handy! (I know CamelCamelCamel exists but I wanted to try this one.)

@zen-browser.app is still holding up as an #Arc alternative, a week in. I used container tabs today to have a split view with different sessions. Handy! The icon is strangely unmemorable so I just now adapted this one: github.com/henrik/zen_browser...

Netscape-style retro Zen browser icon. A white “Z” against a night sky with comets. “Zen” below it against a dark hillside.

@soapboxsoftware.bsky.social Are these visual nits in the Mac app on your radar already? Missing bottom padding in the "Profile" heading, and some other headings.

It's a bit of a hassle to scp screenshots and such to my remote dev machine for Claude, so I automated it. Now I can type "/dl" in a remote Claude Code session and it gets the latest file from my host Mac's ~/Downloads directory.

User:
/get-last-download What's this?

Claude Code:

● Bash(dir=$(mktemp -d /tmp/dl.XXXXXX) && curl --silent --show-error
--remote-header-name --remote-name --output-dir "$dir"
http://localhost:19998/last-download && ls…)
⎿ Roberts-Claude-Shannon.webp

Read 2 files (ctrl+o to expand)

● Your latest download is Roberts-Claude-Shannon.webp at
/tmp/dl.eKcP2e/Roberts-Claude-Shannon.webp.

The filename gives it away — this is Claude Shannon, the father of information theory.
The black-and-white photo shows him in front of what looks like early computing/switching equipment, holding some papers. His 1948 paper "A Mathematical Theory of Communication" basically founded the field of digital communications. A legend!

These stacked toasts (mmmm) in Shopify Admin are lovely.

It's fun trying to strike the balance between maintainability/upgradeability and customisability with Shopify. I wanted originals and prints to have nicer-looking titles on product pages without messing with the title display in thumbs, cart, search. Made the template split on en-dashes if present 💡

Thumbnail showing "Memento Mori II – original art" as a single line of black text. The artwork is a half-woman, half-skeleton, lots of symbolism and the Signature Snake™.

Part of a product page showing "Memento Mori II" as a pink heading with "ORIGINAL ART" below in grey.

Part of a product page showing "Memento Mori II" as a pink heading with "A3 PRINT WITH GENUINE GOLD LEAF" below in grey.

It's very neat that #Shopify lets you set a focal point for images (help.shopify.com/en/manual/on...). Their own Craft theme didn’t use it for product cards (thumbnails). I fixed it: thepugautomatic.com/2025/07/use-...

Before: Screenshot of two thumbnail images, both with heads cut off. Fairy tale art style in pastels.

After: Screenshot of the same two thumbnail images, now with heads in frame.

I took this screen capture from some TV show 13+ years ago and I think about it often. The Swedish subtitles read "He is interesting because he has something irreverent: a dog in sunglasses". (I seem to remember this was in Brazil.)

TV screenshot. Close-up of the face and shoulders of a tan man maybe in his 50s, drinking from a coconut (?) through a straw, with a fluffy white dog on his shoulder. The dog wears sunglasses and a cheeky smile. Swedish subtitles read: "He is interesting because he has something irreverent: a dog in sunglasses."

”Red Nose of Courage” (1992) is a brilliant humorous take on British PM John Major’s double life as a clown and has the most glorious clown sex scene. Stumbled over the full episode here: www.dailymotion.com/video/x1vcc88 Ca 25:00–26:00 but it’s worth watching the whole thing.

Screengrab: Squirty flower doing its thing.

Screengrab: Clown shoe on clown foot sensuously pulling down woman’s underthings.

@catsofyore.bsky.social You might enjoy. The tray is surely not very old but I guess the photo is.

Melamine tray with a black and white photo of four kittens with colorised pale pink tea cups and text reading ”AFTERNOON TEA” and ”Four leaders of the pussy set, / For tea and talk together met.”

You don’t get the impact from a screenshot, but I tried the #VisionPro ultrawide Mac Virtual Display and it’s glorious. Feels like a game changer. I’ve had a borrowed Vision Pro for months, not touched it for several weeks, but this makes me want to maybe use it more.

Vision Pro screenshot of an ultrawide virtual screen floating in space in a purple room, showing Slack on the left third, Obsidian in the centre, and a browser with Wikipedia on the right.

@castropodcasts.bsky.social Not sure whether bug or a confusing UI choice, but clicking this link to a podcast only shows two episodes.

@catsofyore.bsky.social You may appreciate Sissi, my partner’s grandmother’s childhood cat. Probably 1930s.

Discovering the century-old treasure that is #KrazyKat. Better late than never. Just look at this 1922 page from the Wikipedia article (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krazy_Kat)! Funny and dreamlike and sucks you into its world.

A 21 panel page, in colour, telling a story of a mouse carrying a door through a desert landscape.

Trying this again :) My partner is a working artist and cats are a recurring theme. Her art site: johannaost.com

Moody evening scene in a garden with a young woman holding a cat.

Vintage-style Halloween card with the text ”Hallowe’en Greetings”, with a black cat and a tuxedo cat pulling a witch’s cart through a haunted forest alongside snakes, toads and bats.

Postcards with a turquoise cat sitting and a yellow cat on a branch, respectively, stylised as watercoloury blobs.

Our black cat Pluto sitting on a pump organ by a purple wall on which hangs two paintings in octagonal frames. Himself on the right with a mouse in his mouth; his tux brother Vincent on the left.

Some friends found this child-scale tea set for us!

A green tea set with everything in the shape of cats: mug, jug, tea pot, bowl. Hint of Christmas decorations.
