🚨 New piece in @nathumbehav.nature.com: We show that socioeconomic gaps in childcare access across the OECD are not mainly about lower demand. Many disadvantaged families want childcare but face barriers such as scarcity, costs, and complex procedures. Main takeaway: make access easier 📣

Key result 3: Attitude shifts are strongly linked to labor-market plans. Mothers in the treatment group were 18% more likely to plan increases in working hours. These shifts are notably stronger among mothers with access to childcare or partner involved in childcare. (Table 4) 📋
120
Henning Hermes @henninghermes.com · 23/12/2024
Key result 2: The intervention also shifted mothers’ own attitudes towards a more liberal view on maternal employment (effect size ~25% of the control group mean). Effect more pronounced for mothers overestimating the conservativeness around them and those with overall moderate attitudes (Fig. 3+4)

Henning Hermes @henninghermes.com · 23/12/2024
Key result 1: Most mothers overestimate the conservativeness of gender norms in their city. An intervention providing accurate information reduced misperceptions by ~25% and shifted personal attitudes towards more maternal employment. #SocialNorms (Table 2) 📊
