In Belfast for the week to take a very short beginner’s course in ancient Greek at Queen’s University. Today, the alphabet, diphthongs, diacritic marks, & first transliterations. Homework tonight: more transliteration (of English words received from the Greek more-or-less whole - eg ambrosia). 📚

My photo shows a view of the Roman Aqueduct in Segovia, Spain. I took the photo from half way up the steps at the side of the structure and looking along its length. It was taken on a fine October morning in 2021. Small figures of people can be seen walking in the street below. Houses across the valley can be seen through the upper arches of the aqueduct.

The Treasury of Atreus is a large tholos tomb constructed c. 1300 BC in Mycenae. The tomb is a large circular burial chamber, and was named after Atreus, the father of Agamemnon and Menelaus. I'm so excited to visit Mycenae next week with a group of Classics Academy students ❤️🏛 #Ancientbluesky 🏺
