Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Here's my final 45 HMs for #THEN0UGHTIE5. Happy with my list, but hope my decision to cut a lot of faves with 80+ public votes doesn't come back to haunt me. 😬 4151
Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 25/07/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 Day 50 "That Great Love Sound" The Raveonettes (2003) Can't sleep so may as well post the finale! Felt like a good bookend to my first pick, "Party Hard": roaringly melodic, winkingly retro, and I *love* them both even though I'm normally not a fan of this production aestheticyoutu.beThe Raveonettes - That Great Love SoundYouTube video by TheRaveonettesVEVO 0210
Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 25/07/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 Day 49 "Ante Up (Robbin Hoodz Theory)" M.O.P. (2000) Single; JCC: ✅️ A vibe shift from Shaggy & RikRok, to put it mildlyyoutu.beM.O.P. - Ante Up (Official HD Music Video)YouTube video by PaperChaserDotCom 0190
Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 23/07/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 Day 48 "It Wasn't Me" Shaggy ft Ricardo "RikRok" Ducent (2000) Single; JCC: ✅️ Gently absurdist humor that feels vaguely parodicyoutu.beIt Wasn't MeYouTube video by Shaggy - Topic 0120

Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 21/07/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 Day 46 "El Resto De Mi Vida" Juniper Moon (2002) Single; JCC: ✅️ Fresh & sweet pop punk indeed! New-ish to me via PPP, but wouldn't be surprised if this was on a Little Steven's Underground Garage comp at the time & I missed ityoutu.beJUNIPER MOON - El Resto De Mi Vida [Audio]YouTube video by Elefant Records 1181
Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 20/07/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 Day 45 "Goodbye Earl" The Chicks (2000) Single; JCC: ✅️ Stands out for being gleefully, campily specific, unlike most songs of this type that leave a lot to the imaginationyoutu.beThe Chicks - Goodbye Earl (Official Video)YouTube video by dixiechicksVEVO 0140
Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 19/07/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 Day 44 "Bring Me to Life" Evanescence ft. Paul McCoy (2003) Single; JCC: ✅️ Overplay has ruined this a bit for me, but it's on the bubble & I'm one of the few hard rock fans here, so here you go, Amy & Wake! Me! Up! guyyoutu.beEvanescence - Bring Me To Life (Official HD Music Video) ft. Paul McCoyYouTube video by EvanescenceVEVO 0130

Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 16/07/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 Day 41 "I Predict a Riot" Kaiser Chiefs (2004) Single; JCC: ✅️ True to myself, there will be more borderline corny retro guitar pop before this is overyoutu.beKaiser Chiefs - I Predict A Riot (Official Video)YouTube video by KaiserChiefsVEVO 1200

Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 13/07/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 Day 38 "X Gon' Give it to Ya" DMX (2003) Single; JCC: ✅️ Arguably the ultimate hype/sports montage track. Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 12/07/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 Day 37 "Yeah!" Usher ft Lil Jon & Ludacris (2004) Single; JCC: ✅️ I think this may need a small boost to secure it for the parade if I'm counting public votes right? Surprising. The beat sounds sleek & space age to me; felt natural to put it after DJ Mujava's sci fi blips & boopsyoutu.beUsher - Yeah! (Official Video) ft. Lil Jon, LudacrisYouTube video by UsherVEVO 0170
Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 11/07/2026"Until It Sleeps" was my half serious/half trolling pick for this. I lump it in my mind with Liz Phair's "Why Can't I" & I'm fond of both against my better judgment; polished of-the-moment hack work where flashes of the artists' character poke through with leadfooted charm 041

Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 06/07/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 Day 31 "I Just Wanna Be Mad" Terri Clark (2003) Single; JCC: ✅️ Plays as a down to earth check-in, 7 yrs later, with the Suds in the Bucket girl and her knight in the white pickup truck. Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 05/07/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 Day 30 "Suds in the Bucket" Sara Evans (2003) Single; JCC: ✅️ Peppy and cute and (line) danceable; "She left the suds in the bucket & the clothes hanging out on the line" is such a pithy take on the trope of the small town girl getting out of dodgeyoutu.beSara Evans - Suds In The Bucket (Official HD Video)YouTube video by saraevansVEVO 070
Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 04/07/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 Day 29 "Kerosene" Miranda Lambert (2005) 11 pts JCC: ✅️ I was torn between this & 3 other singles, but the people have spoken & this brash Steve Earle style jangle rocker is the pick. Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 01/07/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 Day 26 "Schism" Tool (2001) Single; JCC: ✅️ One of their coolest/most disquieting use of tricky time signaturesyoutu.beSchismYouTube video by TOOL - Topic 0110
Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 30/06/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 HM 5 "The Wicker Man" Iron Maiden (2000) Cut from the main list because I wanted to limit legacy acts & this is isn't quite up to their classics, but still a very good late career single I wanted to tip my hat toyoutu.beThe Wicker Man (2015 Remaster)YouTube video by Iron Maiden - Topic 190
Helene Hoffman @helenehoffman.bsky.social · 29/06/2026#THEN0UGHTIE5 HM 4 "Miss Independent" Ne-Yo (2008) Ne-Yo is here to class up my HMs with some dreamy, fluttery R&B. (I'd memoryholed this one, thanks nominators!)youtu.beNe-Yo - Miss Independent [Official Video]YouTube video by NeYoVEVO 0150
