It is interesting to me how international women's day has become so mainstream. It originated in the socialist movement. My first memory of celebrating it stems from 1976, a big event that filled the Mansion House in Dublin, initiated by the CPI, with speakers from Chile & USSR.

For 4 days, I was over in Manchester discussing Marxism with other Marxist scholars (mostly from China). As with most conferences, some presentations were more interesting than others, but the conversations in between presentations were even better.
