"How to become good looking" A page from a recipe book produced by the people of Barnsley during WW2 "a cupful of kindness 4oz of goodwill, and a pinch of hope and a bunch of faith..." #ExploreYourArchive #EYABeauty
Vintage book excerpt featuring a poetic recipe titled “How to Become Good Looking” by Mrs. J. G. Lee, printed on aged, yellowed paper. The text lists whimsical ingredients such as “2 oz. of patience,” “a cupful of kindness,” “4 oz. of goodwill,” “a pinch of hope,” “a bunch of faith,” “industry,” “prudence,” “sympathy,” “humility,” and “good humour,” combining them into a metaphorical mixture seasoned with “common sense” and “daily content.”

What #EYABeauty lies on the inside of this unassuming folder? We're showing off Elsie Wakefield's fungi illustrations today 🍄 Wakefield became Head of Mycology at Kew Gardens in 1915 and our Archives hold her personal papers collection, which includes letters, illustrations and photographs. #KewLA
A blank grey paper folder on a brown wooden surface. Numerous coloured illustrations of mushrooms layered on top of each other so that corners and sections of pages are obscured. On each sheet there are light pencil annotations next to the illustrations.

If someone said ‘Hey, I’ve got a portable Time Machine that will transport you to a place and time entirely new to you and yet you will feel completely connected to it - and it only costs £8.99 for a return trip’ - you’d bite their hand off to have a go. In other news: buy a book!

My repository has over $100,000 for digitization/year & we can go through that in one or two projects easily. Our last quote? $1.2 million to digitize one collection. #archives #ExploreYourArchive 📚
