AP Stylebook warns against anthropomorphizing AI systems: “Avoid language that gives them human characteristics… Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.”
APStylebook @APStylebook

Artificial intelligence systems do not think, feel, want or understand. Avoid language that gives them human characteristics. This is called anthropomorphizing, when we ascribe human traits, emotions or behaviors to non-human things, such as animals or inanimate objects.
Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.

When you use agentic development, leaning into software fundamentals matters more than ever before.
rhonabwy.com
Software Engineering fundamentals matter more than ever
The manifestation of my imposter syndrome, for me and today, is what does it mean to be a software engineer. There's a lot more noise than signal on the Internet about agentic engineering, what can be accomplished, and its implications for the future. The title I chose rather gives it away; it's about choosing — carefully — all the things you need to choose when you're solving the puzzles of software and systems development.

So happy to see the details (github.com/apple/truety...) behind the #swift rewrite of the interpreter; performance doesn't just match, it exceeds — and gets Swift's safety features. Not that I need a interpreter myself, but seeing how the code goes together — what's been used — is really cool!

My thoughts (and 9 tips) from my journey so far in learning how to use agentic coding tools.
rhonabwy.com
Navigation Notes – Agentic coding
I don't doubt that jobs associated with software engineering are undergoing a massive sea change. While I was far less certain as to its applicability a year ago, tools like Codex, Claude Code, and OpenCode are effective and - to me - can provide value. These tools are getting better at an extraordinarily high rate, but I don't see it going up forever.

My fave tip for dev #swiftlang -> Linux, check how your Swift package compiles while on your mac w/ container: container run -it -c 4 -m 8g \ -v "$(pwd):/src" -w src/ \ swift:6.2 sh -c "swift build" (runs a Swift 6.2 image, gives it 4CPU and 8GB, mounts your PWD as "src", and builds)

Nearly ten years ago, Swift was open sourced and an official runtime for Linux was released. I’ve been involved with Swift on the server since almost the very beginning, originally picking it up as a way to use a language I really enjoyed for backend development. In that time Swift has come a long way, with stability across platforms, a burgeoning ecosystem and many success stories. It’s matured into a great option for highly-scalable server applications, websites, and lambdas. In this post, I’ll cover how Swift:
