important take away: it MUST be well done. Not a list of descriptors without feeling and purpose. Readers WILL forget a good portion of those but know exactly where that character's headspace is with a well done mirror description.

Whorechata (Author Emmy Scanga) @heauxchata.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

i don't care what anyone says... i love a well done mirror description of a character. not only does it tell you what they look like, but also gives you really valuable insight to how they see themself.

experiment gone extremely well! hardback slip covers mayhaps will be in the works!

in case it wasn't blatantly clear. all of this is about social media community. the plague of "writing advice as content" mods aren't at all what i am referring to which is why i was confused. im not talking about reddit, facebook, or any other community with rules. just booktok spaces

000

Whorechata (Author Emmy Scanga) @heauxchata.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

and as i say this as a community moderator in a completely different niche. i have community there but it has NOTHING to do with writing or being with other authors

001

Whorechata (Author Emmy Scanga) @heauxchata.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

social media... not sure what closed writing communities are doing cookie cutter content to "encourage" engagement? i am specifically referring to social networking and how it saps creativity in boiling us down to "booktok" all while telling us to "make connections"

Pandemics give rise to fascism. Disabled people were warning about this at the beginning of COVID. The Spanish Flu helped pave the way for Hitler and the Nazis. We begged you to pay attention. To wear a mask. To realize it wasn’t over just because the government said it was.

as monster fic writer i find it hilarious! like it's a werewolf... it's gonna say something in a growl lmao

020

Whorechata (Author Emmy Scanga) @heauxchata.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

uh mods? not sure what you mean by that? i am speaking upon social media's curation of community spaces and how it has morphed into this commodification and surface level engagement that doesn't breed community.

Whorechata (Author Emmy Scanga) @heauxchata.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

This! Coupled with so many of my writing inspirations being garbage human beings has left the space hard to really feel connection.

020

Whorechata (Author Emmy Scanga) @heauxchata.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

I feel this so hard. I can't fathom using AI for any part of my process. And having to check every new author connection I make to see if they are even writing their books is a level hell I never expected.

Whorechata (Author Emmy Scanga) @heauxchata.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

and yes, seeing the state of the muck we must wade pulls me from my creativity. CAPITALISM DESTROYS CREATIVITY.

Whorechata (Author Emmy Scanga) @heauxchata.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

media literacy down the drain... this is commentary on the social algorithms that plague the "booktok" space, what it has boiled down to and not being able to escape, no matter the curation. The very algo we as writers MUST utilize to find readers. Our platforms to network are subpar and flooded.

110

Whorechata (Author Emmy Scanga) @heauxchata.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

imma challenge you... please reread. ponder. use some critical thinking to truly decipher what I am saying in this post. i'll give you a hint, it has nothing to do with how i feel about myself, my art nor my opinion on it.

100

Whorechata (Author Emmy Scanga) @heauxchata.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

too short for nuance and critical thinking, huh?

100

Whorechata (Author Emmy Scanga) @heauxchata.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

as a writer, i truly despise being a part of the communities. not in the sense that writers shouldn't network and converse, but this push to "fix your writing", "ten things readers hate seeing", "i dnf a book when i see a character growl"... it leaves me so frustrated and pulled from my creativity.
