$53.5 million in NYPD misconduct settlements in the first half of 2026 alone, pushing the total toward $1 billion since 2018. "It fuels this cycle of impunity," one advocate says. #NYPD #PoliceAccountability

A former coworker in his late 20s told me that he’s NEVER purchased music. Like it hadn’t occurred to him. Blew my mind.

I’m from Portland, OR but live in North Jersey and commute into Manhattan now. Portland is smaller than Chicago, of course, but the transportation network is solid and the winters are mild. The gray skies and rain can be challenging but nothing beats a sunny day in Portland!

I’m employed as a library assistant and finishing my MLIS in December. I’m trying to get a librarian (or equivalent) position within the same system and it feels impossible with how many applicants apply for each position. It’s wild.

I am currently finishing my MLIS and every course has had a 12-20 page syllabus. Alternatively, my partner teaches at a conservatory, has never provided a syllabus, and is flabbergasted by the suggestion that he or his students *might* benefit from one!

Any chance you’ve read Megan Kimble’s City Limits: Infrastructure, Inequality, and the Future of America’s Highways? She’s a Texas girl and is invested in transportation! I enjoyed reading about public transportation outside of NYC.

My mom spends most Saturday mornings protesting with a bunch of other grandmothers in downtown Salem, Oregon. Today an old man in a van drove by and pulled a gun on her because he didn’t like the sign she was holding. I’m so angry. She said she’s feeling better, but I’m still so angry.

Lotta people this weekend are gonna have a karaoke mic in their hand when they find out that Dolly was a SINGER singer and even the songs she made sound easy are very hard. Keep your head on a swivel.

My partner commutes to a music conservatory 5 hours away. He crams everything into 3 ridiculously long days so that he can be here in NYC to maintain an active performance career. He would quit in an instant if a policy like this was implemented.

Dolly Parton Never Wavered
From making music to launching a huge literacy program, the singer always took her work seriously. Eventually, the rest of us caught up.

her very existence was an indisputable reminder of how many things framed as inevitabilities were actually just someone’s choice. there actually is enough money for everything. the wealthy could fully fund literacy and public health and the arts and child welfare. they just won’t

I’m a NYC library worker graduating with my MLIS in December. Jobs are hard to come by and they all pay pretty badly! It was scary going back to school at 40, but I’ve done remarkably well while working full time and I hope it’s worth it in the end. Please pump me up before my last (ever) semester!

400 library workers begin their strike Monday after endless months of trying to negotiate with management. Already the anti-union propaganda machine is calling the library workers entitled. The LIBRARY workers. You don't staff the desk at the free stuff store because you're greedy.
