"This means the new definition does not involve emergency managers coordinating with other government agencies, nonprofits such as the Red Cross, or private entities—including utility companies. The new definition also seems to preclude providing funding for disaster mitigation or recovery."

This is where I camped out during most of my lunch breaks when I was on the month-long murder trial jury. A lovely beacon of joy. And the chairs are big and comfy.

The real dagger is that I needed to be with my mom today during a heart procedure, and had to frantically scramble for help. So today @volcanojw.bsky.social & @samer.is traded off being there the entire time with my mom at the hospital and if I were a cryer I’d be blubbering all over right now ❤️😭❤️

So guess who wasn’t, indeed, having a “such a long reaction” to the vax and actually just had covid? 🫠 Pretty bananas to catch it and begin showing symptoms at literally the exact same time I always get the vax reaction (~8 hours after). Messed up if you ask me! Anyway, get your shots, pals.

Beloved thief Parker saying “I honestly don't even know how to be a criminal anymore. There's no way to actually break the law,” in the Sam Bankman-Fried / Verizon throttling firefighters data mash-up ep was perfect. Sometimes you just need to watch earnest corporate vigilantes do their thing.

I’ve had such a long reaction to Thursday’s vax that I’m wondering if I didn’t just catch covid last week HOWEVER I activated a free month of Prime and caught up on the last Good Omens ep, S3 of Leverage: Redemption, and am halfway through Project Hail Mary so it’s been an A+ media weekend.

No complaints about increasing my access to donuts, but it feels like a wild business choice to open a bagel place 50ft from Buffalo and Bergen, and across the street from Cracked Eggery. (And I love breakfast spots but I love less a bunch of storefronts that all close at 3pm...)

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

You could find your way along the Nova Scotia coast blind, just by timing the blinks. Every lighthouse flashes on its own rhythm, a set interval and colour no neighbour repeats. Sambro Island off Halifax has burned since 1758, the oldest working lighthouse in North America. #lighthouse #NovaScotia

Walked to Wegman’s today; it’s out of my way but neighbor gave me a gift card for feeding her cats. Tried to take a new way to Wisconsin Ave because there’s a secret little path at the dead end of Springland Lane. At least, there used to be.
A huge mess of branches and full tree trunks fallen from a storm completely blocking a walking path. In the background is a 20ft high trunk with the top ripped off.
